Here’s some things to consider in the next iteration of your design. All anti-tank missiles use an ABOL motor (All Burn On Launch) that propels the rocket to flight speed and then the rocket will either coast to the target or, the flight motor kicks in at 150 meters in flight and pushes it out to its max range (usually around 4,000 meters). For your case, a single ABOL motor would be best. You can make your own motors from household products so it’s not too difficult. ABOL motors are basically a slower burning explosion that’ll bun for about 1.5 seconds. You can put a small 3-4 inch thick foam (something like foam insulation panels used on homes) sealed with a couple layers of duct tape. This will give you something for the motor to push against even though it’s a slight resistance. Upon ignition the rocket will be pushed forward and the plug will be ejected out the rear of the launch tube, it’s called an Arm Burst propulsion. The rocket has to be made so the CG is constant through the flight and even installing a small gyro will help greatly in keeping the rocket stable in flight. One thing you can use for a gyro is a small 2” diameter caged bearing that you can spin up with an air compressor line. It only takes about 5 seconds to get the gyro up to speed so it generates a stable platform for the flight and it’ll stay in motion long enough for the flight. This is the same principle we use in the TOW missile that I used for decades while in the Army. You might consider adding longer fins at the rear of the rocket that fold out under spring tension once the rocket leaves the tube. There’s all kinds of options for stabilizing fins and where to place them. Avoid using more than one motor for flight, more than one will create a lot of yaw. So for an ABOL motor design, you’ll need to make a large Venturi for the exhaust to be pushed through to allow for the massive volume of gas that’s generated upon ignition, using a small one will cause it to experience an unanticipated involuntary rapid disassembly, lol. Or, you can add two motors in the mid section of your rocket with exhaust ports angled outwards at a 30 degree angle and set so they’re on the horizontal level. After the ABOL ignition, the regular motors will continue to accelerate the rocket. You can cut down the length of the D cell motors with a knife or PVC pipe cutter then apply some JB weld at the rear of the new cut. Our TOW missile uses two small nitrogen bottles to actuate the control fins at the rear of the missile and a thermal battery to spin up the gyro which takes 1.5 seconds to get up to speed thanks to the help of a small squib firing to kick it into motion. Without using a gyro, make your rocket longer and add fins around the middle of the rocket for stability but make sure the fins don’t have an airfoil laminate flow on them or it’ll cause the rocket to go everywhere but to the target. You can even try using a ribbon streamer at the end of the rocket to stabilize the tail end of the rocket in leu of fins, make the streamer about 4-5 feet long and 1.5” wide. Well, that’s all I can think of at the moment, have fun!

A friend of mine did the same idea approximately 30 years ago with a strong cardboard tube, it had a rotating section at the rear to turn to open for a second person to light the rockets fuse, once lit it was rotated closed. It proved very accurate. He fired a couple of rockets with myself helping, on the way home in his car he pulled over and fired a single rocket off by himself. In the rush his aim across a golf course caused the firework rocket to blow out several windows in a conservatory of a house.

The reason I think your front fin design didn't work was due to the rocket not rotating as it exited the launch tube, if you attached helical, or angular fins to the upper half of the body, it could create spin and the centripetal force from that should stabilize the rocket about its central axis.

@2:22 this is because the center of mass is shifted ahead of center of pressure. For this toy to fly properly you must always make sure that the center of mass is always behind the center of pressure. Remember that the pull must be always ahead of the mass or else the rocket will act very erratically. Honda cars have front pull, US cars have rare push, for stability of driving - Honda front pull is much better than back push specially during the snow time.

i have come up with several new additions to this device, as in a way to control it and a contact detonation device located in the nose cone. My first idea is to use a contact detonation fuse to light up the spicy kaboom powder located in the nose of the rocket. Since the rocket is also uncontrolled, i am trying to brainstorm a way to create a simple laser guidance system. Unfortunately information for either of these devices are hard to find, but I will find a way. And you will hear about it.

If one wereso inclined, hypothetically, a mortar firework, remanufactured to be elongated, rather than round... could be integrated into the rocket tube with a delay fuse...or perhaps even a simple bundle of sparklers taped tightly together with a fuse connected to the solid fuel engine for an explosion. 🤔
