It also occurred to me that this is an interesting example of very modern technology we now take for granted: rare earth magnets, monofilament fibres, CA glue and 3D printing. What a remarkable world we live in nowadays...

This is great but it would be truly awesome if you could also replace the supporting strings that are in tension with a magnetised gap - it would then be a real floating table! It might not be able to hold much though... balancing it would be a challenge and failure would be quite catastrophic!
