Dude that's exactly how I started playing guitar. Nirvanas music was so fun and catchy, and I felt like I could play it. There's a KZbin video of Nirvana practicing in a basement in 87 , and when I seen that I realized it was okay to suck and I didn't have to be a savant to learn and enjoy playing guitar!
@Aint1S2 жыл бұрын
You know, a whole lot of the taking heads in *guitar land* on KZbin would prefer you to not like Kurt Cobain... They claim he wasn't good, it was too simple, it wasn't perfect, and so on. Ironically, that's a sign that you are so good at making music that it's natural and not even little mistakes can make people not like it. They can't cut it... Their frustration is projected onto a guy who wasn't a technical guitarist that sells more music and gear.

I remember an old guitar world interview with Kurt. He described how the bridge on the Jaguar was a literal nightmare to adjust. @@gabewilliams7462 I remember the interview he was talking about because I happen to own that magazine. He was actually talking about the action on the Mustang bridge, which would apply to the Jag bridge also I suppose. He said "You have to loosen all of the strings, completely remove the bridge from the guitar, and turn these tiny little screws with your fingers, and hope you got it right. Whoever invented that guitar was a dork." Then the interview reminded him that it was Leo Fender. Kurt says, "Great, I guess I'm calling Leo Fender, the dead guy, a dork. Now I'll never get an endorsement." Lol. Little did he know, he wasn't far from being the next dead guy... and he'd get a bunch of signature guitars post-humously. FYI: There are still a few of Kurt's actual "missing" guitars rumored locally to be somewhere in Thurston county. About 5 years back I think I encountered one but have since lost the trail. The one I saw was a faded red strat. Being friends with some of Kurt's fellow Hoquiam musicians and school mates I've been told there were several in his collection that are just plain unaccounted for by today's archives and historians. It is also rumored that Courtney has placed a price on them (and their possessors) which makes a lot of sense and would confirm their missing state and existence. I would love to see these mystery guitars make an appearance one day. :)

Idk how true this is but Kurt also apparently had two 65 Jag’s according to a guitar tech of his. One of them was the one he played live, and another one that also had Dimarzio’s in it and a bound neck that he changed back to stock single coils. Also if you look at the pictures of the Jag-Stang Polaroid mockup, the Jag in the picture has a right handed tremolo system and is in better shape. Edit: Found the interview, he bought the second Jag in 1992 at Airline Vintage in Dallas for $500. Crazy how he found two of the same guitars, from the same year, with the same mods.

I bought mine 3 years ago... My Sweetwater sales guy Kurt was worried I may be out of my genre for the guitar and I assured him I play more than classical. Usually, I play classical styled music which slowly morphs into hammer-ons / pull-offs with some chiming to carry it all; however, that's when stomp the overdrive and distortion with some delay as I begin to play metal. This guitar is a huge help when I'm playing classical with the incredibly short scale and mine has a very Rolling Stones vibe. Each guest has a form of soul and it wants to play what it wants out of it. I love mine! I really like the sound of your rig, just wish I could've picked up the Boogie V head and cab I need; however, it was out of stock at the time.

I picked one of these up second hand in 2014 for £750. Modified it by adding a coil split switch to the blank spot next to the 3 way toggle switch, and it's remained my favourite guitar for all these years.
@craigthomson36212 жыл бұрын
I have also added a coil split switch next to the 3 way toggle switch. It is an easy mod, and fully reversible if you want to restore to original spec. There are already some shrink wrapped taped off 4 conductor wires leading from the pickups that you can lengthen and use (check out the wiring diagram in the service manual on the Fender website). By using some M4 hex nut spacers, you can position the coil split switch to sit low down so that your strumming hand does not hit it while playing. By using the right resistors, and allowing some output to bleed in from the other coil, there is not too great a volume loss when engaging the (partial) coil split on either or both pickup(s).
@philbritton1892 жыл бұрын
@@craigthomson3621 Yeah it's definitely a mod I'd recommend for anyone, makes me wonder why Kurt or his guitar tech never decided to utilise the space. I know he picked up the guitar second hand, so perhaps it originally did have a switch in that location, that they then removed. I find myself using the coils in the split mode more often than I use the full humbucker. The coil split SuperDistortion has almost a Tele style twang to it, mixed with the short scale length, this guitar becomes great for chicken picking

My mother wants to buy me something around 3000 euros to remember my grandmother by, something that'll pref. last my whole lifetime. I'm way too early in my hobby to put that kind of money into a guitar but that's all I can think of. So here's the problem: I could get the Jaguar and Line6 HX Stomp and something else to go with them. I usually play with my headphones through Scarlett Solo 2i2. With this combination I could skip the whole computer and just play through the Stomp and explore different sounds Or I could put the whole 3k on a Gibson Les Paul Standard. I love both guitars and as a left handed player my options are much more limited than what they are for right handed players. Malmstein was exactly who popped into my head when you were searching for a second on what guitarist to say.(On who you didn't need to be to play nirvana songs)

I'm not gonna lie, my friend years ago had a Fender signature Kurt Cobain mustang which I cant find online at all, it was red, had hot rails, and had the cool hot rod stripe on it. Wish I could find it. Also had a 3 way switch and 2 knobs I think volume and tone. Played fucking great, and she kept good care of it.

The only red Cobain signature mustang was in fiesta red and had no competition stripe on it, only the lake placid blue one did. I think your friend had a regular mustang that was modded.

Music and bands had power and meaning for real back den. I was born in 90 At 13 having a Nirvana shirt at the mall or anywhere, would get tons of ppl (girls mostly) talking to me. But I'm shy so yeah haha, I didn't wear the shirt for clout. Now if I wear a Death shirt ppl yell CHUCK!!
