In this video i will be traveling onboard Europes potentially best night train in the upper deck of a sleeper carrige with ensuite shower and bathroom. The journey starts in Turku and travels for 885 km to Rovaniemi in Finnish Lapland. Come along for a ride as we ride towards the artic cirlce watching the extremly cold artic landscape from the comfort of a heated train cabin onboard VR Finnish national railway.
I hope to take more nighttrains in the coming years, such as the ÖBB NightJet or the Swedish Night trains
Also check out my other train reviews / trip reports from Finland.

Amazing trip report those Finnish double decker trains clearly are best way to travel across the country You managed to get a room to yourself aswell as a ensuite bathroom and a great view of the outside at a price less than €100 which is certainly worth the value the trains in general seem wide moving space thanks to the large Finnish rail gauage and being in the dining car watching the sunrise on the harsh but beautiful winter scenery must have been a spectacular experience. Last but not least I like the new style of trip report spoken words some music and a few captions you should continue this in future trip reports 😊

Something I noticed: the passenger information system seems to be completely messed up here. At 5:21 you see the display announcing Imatra as the next stop, but Imatra is on the other side of the country. And at 8:31 the display mentions Karjaa and shows the rest of the Turku-Helsinki route up to Pasila. That definitely should not happen! I hope the staff announced the situation and told you not to trust what you were seeing. Situations like this are actually quite rare in my experience, and VR has done good job investing in their passenger information recently. Not so long ago the screens were usually just black with tiny clock & speed displays in the lower corners. :D Oh, and the carriage you're passing through on your way to the restaurant is a vintage InterCity car. They were used on InterCity routes before the double-deckers were put into service and eventually replaced them.
@Simon-Andersen
@Simon-Andersen 3 жыл бұрын
Staff were aware and made announcements instead :). I have the same expirence ive taken about 30 journeys on either Pendolinos or regular IC trains and i think this is the first one to be out of order. I like the vintage IC cars, they have been kept in a really good state, got to travel in one from Helsinki to Turku once as for some reason my regular IC train was running with those.
@Delfiinit
@Delfiinit 3 жыл бұрын
@@Simon-Andersen Yeah, I think at least some of them have been slightly renovated and they are mostly used as backup stock and are on daily service only on the night trains. Generally I'm more nostalgic about the older "blue wagons" (both coach and sleepers) used in the now extinct express trains. There might still be some of them in service on night trains to Kolari if you're interested in some old school traveling. The seats are waaaay comfier than any of the IC seats. :D And the old sleeper beds are fine too but the cabins lack proper air conditioning and the noise can be pretty bad. I lived in Lapland for the first 18 years of my life so I have many special memories of night train trips to Helsinki to visit my grandparents.

Childern are allowed to share a bunk with a parrent from the ages 0-10 at no additional cost. I'm not sure if this is comfortable with older/bigger childern and it might be best to book another cabin for them. The beds are 2 meters x 0.75 meters.

As someone that has been travelling these railroads for decades, it depends. Do you prefer traveling face forwards to the direction you're going to, or vice versa? If former, choose right side of the train, if latter, choose left. You'll get some good landscapes either way. I always choose my position in the car with 'Where is the sunset/sunrise at?'.

Hi there guys, I’m from malaysia here, maybe planning to go to Rovaniemi for solo travelling since I haven’t been travel for 2 years. Few questions here: 1. May I ask that if I’m travelling to Finland with just cash without any debit or credit card , would it be ok? As I’m just a teenager, just travelling with cash , haven’t own a debit or credit card yet. 2. What type of buses u can get from Rovaniemi airport to Rovaniemi city ? Also I saw the Airport express buses has been temporarily halted their operations too . 3. If I on board the bus in Rovaniemi like example from Rovaniemi bus station to the Arctic glass igloo village bus station , can I pay with cash directly to the driver , without using any credit or debit card?
