For the 700 series _Shinkansen_ (the original one, not the newer N700(A*/S) ones) only the 1st & last rows in each car have power outlets. & I think they are also the last _Shinkansen_ to have squat toilets but no bidets/toilet seat warmers. & I guess that the multi-purpose room is a euphemism for "nursing room/sick bay" *By the way I also remember that all N700 _Shinkansen_ have been upgraded to N700A spec, with more energy efficient propulsion equipment, while some brand-new rolling stock built to N700A standard were also built in 2013

That train does NOT look like it did in the past. They took old train wagons and COMPLETELY ruined them. It is really depressing, especially concerning the night wagons from the 80s. The sleeping wagons from the 80s in Sweden were some of the most cozy... but they have all been refurbished and remodeled and now look like crap.

I live in Tampere, Finland which is a really similar city when compared to Odense. We have 250 000 inhabitants and we also built a new tramline. It was opened in 2021 with 16km of track and similar passenger numbers. We got it for only 240 million euros and it has now been so popular that an additional 6,7km of track will open this summer. There are very likely plans of an additional 13,6km of track to nearby suburbs. We use a Skoda tram with similar specs, frequency of 7,5min, top speed of 70km/h, average speed of around 20km/h and lenght is 37m although the trams will most likely be lenghtened because of them being crowded in peak times. Really interesting to see two cities in two different countries build two almost identical tram systems only a year apart!

The government is bad at planning cancelling new train infrastructure, also happened in Silkeborg. Yet those incompetent bastards over-build expensive motorways like crazy. Now we have a giant, noisy, polluting, climate damaging, traffic causing, dangerous motorway running through our city, I can hardly even take a walk without having to put up with the noise from it and traffic has gotten a lot worse since in the city because of induced demand. They could have fixed the traffic with more public transit and train lines. They were going to build a line from Aarhus to Silkeborg that would take 20 minutes but it was cancelled and we're stuck with the old route that takes 50 minutes. They could not care less about the climate if they wanted to. If you do not own a car you're subsiding people who do. I wish I could choose where my taxes went, I do not want to subsidize car infrastructure that is actively hurting the climate and making my life and city worse. Public infrastructure everybody can use, road infrastructure only the privileged can use, so they spent billions building a highway through my city using my taxes and I can't even use it and just have to put up with the noise, pollution, and dangerous traffic? Thanks, thanks a lot Denmark.

I used to travel a lot by Flixtrain on this route and the most annoying part was that, they often cancelled the ride a few days before and of course refounded it, but by that time, all other operators got more expensive and at the end I had to pay more compared to just buying the ticket at MTRX directly.

At the moment there are only four services per day on the Sanyo Shinkansen that you can book the private compartments. The room costs four times that of a normal seat, but since it's intended to be used by four people it would pan out to be the same price. You can also use this room for cheap on the route from Hakata to Hakata Minami for just €1.9 (¥330)

Here is some bit more mention to explain about the 700 series Shinkansen you’re on. 10:02 these room are special to the 700 series RailStar sets (current Shinkansen in the video). As the 16 car versions doesn’t have these. These room and RailStar exist was JR West’s attempt to compete with air travel in Japan. These originally run the service “Hikari RailStar” it’s basically a special named hikari train. However it was because of the 8 Car N700 that goes to Kyushu have somewhat same stopping pattern as a Hikari service, meaning rendering hikari services on the Sanyo Shinkansen section completely redundant (expection to hikari trains that runs all the way to Tokyo). Which meant these 700 series were reallocated to Kodama services along with the 500 series. Some only very very occasionally at a specific time does Hikari Railstar services. 7:43 would’ve recommend you to put the 16 car versions instead as those are the first versions of the 700 series before the railstars came in. Also a little fact. All of JR west’s Shinkansen are future proof for a future 16 car to 8 car conversion. The other 8 (or so) 700 series from the B sets were modified and ran as 700 series E set aka the railstar sets.
@Sacto16544 күн бұрын
Correct. The original _Hikari Rail Star_ operations between Shin-Osaka and Hakata skipped many stations along the way and were equipped with more comfortable seating to entice passengers from flying on airliners between Osaka and Hakata. Sadly, I think these 700 Series, along with the 500 Series, train sets will likely be retired by 2026 as they are replaced with refurbished and shortened N700A train sets. We will also see the N700A train sets replaced by N700S train sets over the next 4-5 years.
