When I go back and visit the South, the choirs still march in. In fact, even when I visited Paso Robles, California in 2018, the choir marched in and it did my heart glad. Yea I remember when this record came out(I was 5) and the day Mommy came in the house with it. I could not believe that Aretha Franklin was singing. I'm sure I'd heard gospel but not by someone I was familiar with. I looked at that album cover for a long time in awe. I had never seen her sooooo natural and she had a afro . She seemed sooooo......regular, I was just amazed. I wished i was there. That was probably the 1st time me noticing the record was live.This album's been in my ear for 48 years so to see the visual that is the album , was a dream come true.

She was a singer through and through. She was a communicator. She had feeling, and she made you feel it too. Typical of gospel to touch people......but it was also great to see her touch people through the secular as well. But it was all rooted and sprung from this right here. Gospel. She truly was anointed from the very beginning.

Me too.... Mommy brought this album home one day back in 1972, I was 5. Up until that day, every album cover I had seen of Aretha Franklin was fancy, shiny hair, makeup and jewelry but, this album cover had me in aweeeeee. I was fascinated and very confused as to why she looked so........ regular. Hair natural and covered like Mommy, no makeup like mommy with a dress similar to the one Mommy would wear. I just couldn't understand it and when I asked why Daddy said " because she wanted too ". That put her in a different position for me. I'on know why because I was already told she was The Queen but, at that moment I believed it. This was the 1 and only gospel album in our house growing up that was played on a weekly basis and we practiced Islam. When I saw this video shortly after she passed, plz believe me when I tell you, I shed tears. Went to the theater and sang and cried again. It was truly a dream come true.

To today's younger generation notice no autotune needed nor required.
@hardminder4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the fact that you mentioned ''nor required''. Because nowadays, some singers wouldn't ''need'' autotune, but it is required by the engineers, producers, by the ''industry''. It is easier to slide the autotune in the mix than it is to coach singers and to do multiple takes. Motown had dancing, singing, music theory lessons. Nowadays the label are pretty much '' the more you can do at home, the better. Come here prepared and we'll do the minimum.'' Don't think the ''younger generation'' is responsible... The latest generation is a result of evolution and so, a results of previous generations!
