One of my favorite hymns. I try to add some simple embellishments to fill in the note holds, and give it a bit more character, without overdoing the underlying solemnness of the tune.
Doing the higher octave really adds character to the song, but can be tricky at times because my dulcimer tends to go out of tune on those higher notes rather quickly. Also, trying to remember exactly where the highest note is and gauge the placement of the other notes coming back down (since notes aren't named on the instrument) is a bit of a challenge as well.
