I bought the refurbished model and after trying for hours to get it to work I gave up. Food Saver told me at customer service that it was obviously broken somehow... So I sent it back today. Now I have another in the mail. I hope the next one works. I paid $250 for it in July 2024.

I soaked my pintos in fridge overnight but I needed 3 jars quick. All things were just warm. I hope they all turn out. I put my jars in oven on a big cookie sheet at 220 f. Until ready to fill when I need hot jars, hot canner etc. is sterilize point 250f ? I take my jars out of oven one at a time so they stay hot.
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney 14 күн бұрын
You want things hot, not warm. Having it too cool can cause problems. It takes longer for food to come to temp before the processing timer can start. You risk cracking jars as well because of the temperature shock. All instructions I have seen say to use hot water, hot canner, etc. Never "warm. " Opening and closing the oven to remove one jar at a time, instead of pulling them all out at once, isn't really doing you any favors in time or energy efficency. Pulling them all at once helps you do assembly line prep and the jars stay hotter because they are filled with hot food, as you go to put them in the canner.

I rinsed a cleaned 15 beans package. Cleaned jars, put 1/2 cup beans in pint jar, filled with 1” head space nicely warmed water. Put in slightly warmed canner with my jars of pork I’m canning but needed 3 more jas to make 7 so I did the beans. Will this work. I have to process these with the pork 90 min. What do you think ? Fail or success ?
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney 14 күн бұрын
You process the batch for the longest time necessary. Since you say the pork is a 90 minute processing time, it will work. I don't can meats myself. 😊

Hi Jenn. I hear ya! Last year was devastated by slugs and put some slug bait down and some diatomaceous earth. This year when they came out as tiny babies I did it right away what a difference! My plants are thriving. Also started plants early inside under grow lights so the slug activity wasn't as devastating. Like your idea of sowing through a lattice.👍🇨🇦❤️🙏
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney 15 күн бұрын
The lattice is there for two reasons: to keep xats out, and for a planting grid. Works great!! We had started treating the beds in the spring, but because we live in a lower lying area, there's slugs everywhere!! We do what we can to minimize damage.

I must say, that I have scrolled through various videos searching for (someone) who could explain what they are talking about, without boring me to tears, and I happened upon you. I appreciate your presentation and explanation about this plant, but I too was wondering about the use of the stem and flowers, for medicinal purposes, because I don’t have any means to compost.
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney 24 күн бұрын
You can use the flowers, but it's best to use plant before it flowers for the best potency. The chemical coumpounds are contained in the leaves. The stems are really thick and woody and aren't good for medicinal uses. Unfortunately they are only good for garbage.
@davidadausuel4537

@@GardenJensJourney How do I use the flowers? Unfortunately, I didn’t know about harvesting them before they bloomed, but I really appreciated your stating that the leaves could be brewed fresh , because my dehydrator has a high heat, and would destroy any attempt at preserving them. No other sites, stressed this important fact. You have a new subscriber, and I look forward to viewing your canning videos as well. Thank you for responding so quickly, because this too is lacking in other sites.
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney 24 күн бұрын
@davidadausuel4537 using them in a tea, just like the leaves. I would recommend that you get a dehydrator with an adjustable thermostat. You can also make a tincture with the leaves and flowers. You fill a jar 1/2 ful of plant material, then fill it the rest of the way with 80 proof Vodka. Let it steep for 4-6 weeks, shaking it once a day for the first two weeks. Then strain, and store the liquid in a jar with a tight fitting lid, in a cool, dark place. It will keep for yeard.

Have you tried weed fabric for the weed garden section?
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney Ай бұрын
Which section?? I have "weeds" everywhere!! 😂😂😂 I have tried different ways of covering, including fabric. It all costs time and money. The fabric doesn't do a great job, and to try and remove and redo it is a pain in the A$$. Cardboard and woochips is better, but again an investment of time and money. So, I'm just focusing on the actual garden beds themselves, and mowing the rest. 😁

Gardening by nature is rolling with the punches and never knowing what you are going to get come up or come back. I am in zone 5b NH and I got 98 percent germination with my winter sowing close to 40 jugs. All frost tolerant or winter stratification required and yes as it warmed up I had to water some but I was able to get most into the ground 3 weeks ahead of Memorial Day and they are thriving. Even if your zone changed I am sure there is a lot you can winter sow. I agree with someone else who commented it may have been your soil and recheck your methods unless you just don’t want to be bothered anyway.
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney Ай бұрын
As I replied to the other comment, it's not my soil. I used the same exact soil to start the seedlings indoors, with wonderful results, nearly 95% germination rate. I didn't have so much trouble with germination as I did with the roller-coaster temperatures. From freezing overnight to cooking during the day. Those drastic temperature changes killed many of my seedlings. I replanted a few jugs, and still had poor results. I am no newbie to WS, I have been doing it and teaching it for a number of years. I don't think it's my technique. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm glad you had great success in your area. ❤️❤️❤️
@Fritz0616
@Fritz0616 Ай бұрын
Are you sure its not the soil? People are complaining about issues with Happy Frog soil. I actually had excellent results this year with WS.. I used miracle potting mix since last year I used HF and 60% didnt germinate. Sorry this happened regardless.
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney Ай бұрын
It's not the soil. I used ProMix HP, not Hsppy Frog. I used the same exact soil for the plants I started indoors. It is the weather. Too cool and damp, or too hot and dry. My seedlings either froze after germination or cooked. Or died from damping off disease because of the cool and moist soil.

Hi friend, I also had issues with my jugs drying out I planted my jugs middle of April then we had a hard frost that froze the corn and cucumbers. My onion, peas, broccoli did well in the jugs.
@GardenJensJourney
@GardenJensJourney Ай бұрын
Yeah, depending on where you are, it probably was way too soon to plant the corn and cucumbers. It's just now time to plant them here. A old farmer's rule of thumb is not to plant any warm loving crop until after Memorial Day. Just because mother nature likes to defy the Farmer's Almanac predictions of the last spring frost. 😳😂 Thankfully, cucumbers and Corn grow really quickly, and you could start them again the the jugs, but don't seal them.

High expectations need to be tempered with the reality of life for sure. We started very small and have worked our way up to 2 beds and 4 1/2 trellises and then tucking things in here and there among the flowers. 😂 We dropped the ball with the rhubarb. So researched that and will have to change things up if we want to have it in the garden. Unlike you we're not relying on this as our food source. We wouldn't make it! We're trying to improve the quality. For example, frozen beans these days are generally already freezer burned when you get them. So beans are a priority hence the trellises. We love tomatoes. . So it goes. One step at a time.😊. Hope everything you grow brings you great yields! The Lord bless and keep you ❤🙏🇨🇦

So I'll be content to watch you on this one.❤👍🇨🇦🙏 I commented at the beginning so need to continue. I know what it's like to feel incapacitated! Fibroids, blood transfusion, thinking I was dying. Yup, and then deaths in the family one after the other. Not fun. Along with a concussion that turned into post concussion syndrome. And then the big c. hit. Three times. And then long "c" . Now because of the way things are we are homebound, no vacations. So now we just enjoy our health and take each day as it comes. Gardening basically and home Reno. Trying to keep exercising so was excited to follow all that. And most of all getting into the Word of God and listening to good preaching. Wishing you the best. Are you being sponsored to support a charity? You are blessed to have such a beautiful area to walk in. I would be able to ride a bike that distance, maybe, if I still has one. The fork broke... Now don't laugh😂. Not while I was riding it. It happened over the winter stored in the shed!😊 Bye for now.
