thanks for sharing this~ I was interested in these, and you showed me how easy they are to play. I am strumming along now! Ebay sells this kind of thing all the time- that's where I found mine. Wondering where I can get new strings for it.....

Very happy to see how you strummed the chords. Haven't known how to do that so will attempt to duplicate your playing! Thank you so much for posting!

@TZ2OurLittleDogToo I would suggest autoharp strings. You will probably have to purchase an entire set, though.

Well, I don't know if I'm playing it *correctly* but I got the job done. It was kind of fun playing around with it and trying to figure out how to do something with it!

Thank you for your help! I am back at home and able to see them with my own eyes now and I find it interesting because they both have an arm that goes across the strings so they may be something else entirely. We always called them a Zither. And maybe some have the arm and some do not but they are all Zithers, I suppose?? Thanks again!

@purity4all I believe this one was about 100 years old. I don't know much about it.

@blueiis2 If you type this in to the youtube search bar: Stille Nacht - Akkordzither, This is what makes me wonder if I can get that type of sheet music for my zither. Mine looks more like the one you used in your video, but they are pretty similar.I suppose if I had to I could use number music, but I can't find anyone who sells it either. I bumped into an instructional on it somewhere last night and now I can't even find it.

The first time was a doosie (an hour???), but after that, it's not bad as long as you keep the temperature pretty stable.

Does anyone know where I can get the sheet music that slides under the strings for one of these?

such sheet music does exist, or at least it did in the past. I don't know where you could get it nowadays, though.

Oooh how I love that song. It was played on the bagpipe (another beautiful sound) at my Scottish Grandmother's funeral It just brings chills...You did a beautiful job! I imagine you have a pawn shop. Maybe you can help me. My Mother had 2 of them and we have no idea what they are worth. But we will be selling them. :( Would you maybe have some 'inside' info on them, in general? I've been looking around ebay and sites but haven't found a whole lot of info so far. Thanx in advance~

@blueiis2 I have no musical training at all and was hoping to find the cards that you slip under the strings, the ones that have dots that tell you where to pluck. Any idea of where i can get some?

Make your own.... (?)

@@beakytwitch7905 how can I make my own if I don't know anything about music?
@beakytwitch79053 жыл бұрын
@@purity4all I am making my own. First the musical scale as retuned according to Etienne de Lavaulx revised tuning. Then make some template sheet that I can scan and print duplicates of that shows the cut edges and string / notation positions. Using those I could figure out the melody sequence and chords little by little and note those down. Then I will have a usable home-made melody sheet. These devices invite that we experiment.... The revised tuning gives a wider melody range from A4 to E6, with G3 also available from the chord section. Tuning devices and tuning key are inexpensive and efficient for easy tuning.

I love this! I am in the process of buying one now, do you know the year of this one? It's the same maker, but looks a little different than mine. Mine is 1951 and has no handle.
@ChrisTalley113 жыл бұрын
@purity4all I think you are thinking of a lap harp. I've not seen what you are talking about for a zither. Zithers are so many different sizes and types that the template you are talking about would be different for each model. If such a thing exists for the zither, I don't know about it. I wish I was more helpful!

They really aren't worth a lot of money, but you might be able to get $50-$100 or so for one that is ready to go and in decent shape. Some are more rare than others and worth a little bit more. So, not much value, but very cool!
@beakytwitch79053 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Not much monetary value, but super cool !!
