As an Englishman, I never miss the opportunity to have a snide little dig at our Sweaty sock brothers But as an English soldier in the guards division, when the bands of the English, Irish Scottish and Welsh came out, the sound of the bagpipes, put another 2 inches on my chest And I’ll never forget the experience of looking over Loch Ness on a early foggy morning seeing a stag in the mist and hearing the sound of the bagpipes floating across The highlands of Scotland, or exactly what you think they will be except 10 times more Scottish

The bagpipes always brings tars to my eyes, it’s just the sound they are so haunting, so beautiful. And that Carl Ellis’ voice was superb. Thoroughly enjoyed it, almost on a level with Dan Vasc’s metal version, although you can’t compare the two, completely different from each other.

Took part in the Berlin military Tattoo in the late '70's in the Deutschlandhalle. Not sure how many pipers were there but I suspect it was at least 200. One of the resident infantry batallions was the Royal Irish Rangers and their pipers are just top notch. To say it sends a tingle down the spine of most British squaddies is an understatement. The pipes vibrate through your bones right thrhough to the tear ducts.

Coming historically from the center of the German tribes that not only fought successfully against the Romans and later against enforced christianization there still today are a lot of parallels to the Scottish strong stubbornness and full-hearted fight for their freedom and independence😮. And not only since ThE UEFA EU there is a deep going feeling that these Scots might be brothers and sisters we lost but who will always find a place to stay, in our hearts with a lot of sympathy and always with a pub to welcome them and enjoy each other over some beers.
