Lovely job.

Looked really good, I'll look forward to seeing it grow. Was it asked for by the customer or something you suggested to them? It's always good to find a use of waste, only the other day a customers neighbor wanted the hazel I had coppiced so he could use them for plant supports. I could hardly say no, seems a shame to waste resources! Keep up the good work. Subscriber count is rising. 🙂

It's was taken from a customer but (don't tell anyone 😉😉lol) this is just small part of landscaping my own garden on a new build. I just couldn't wait to share my creation. Also a hazel creation is in the making. But I might have bitten of more than I can chew with that one.

Oh well then I look forward to seeing if you can create a better garden than your last! No pressure! That sounds like a hint for a future video then!

Great stuff! Any chance to see what it looked like last summer?
Thanks very much and welcome to the channel. The Fedge had done really well this year. Infact I've just cut it back for winter. I will be doing a update video on its years growth soon.

Do you have any videos of how it looks now it's grown?
@shieldsofgreen2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing this, I'm hoping to do exactly the same thing over an 8m gap. Do you think it is too late in the year to do this and would you be able to tell me how far apart the branches are that you planted?
@TheCountryCottageGardener2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I'd like to do another over a larger area in the future. I have seen willow whips for sale and planting would be ideal but I wouldn't be cutting from the mother plant until winter now. I did 6inch spacing on mine. The ground around it is getting very rooty now. It is definitely helping with soggy wet clay ground

Hi looks great, going to do myself soon. But a bit worried about all of the cable ties, how long do you keep them on for?
@TheCountryCottageGardener2 жыл бұрын
I kept them on for a year. Can use twine instead but I wanted quick and strong.

Great video! What time of year is best to do this?

Thanks. I did this during winter but early spring is still good.

Beautifully done fella. I've a willow to copse as was going to make a hedge out of it but I can not stand willow 😣 Have you ever done this but made a dome/shelter?
@TheCountryCottageGardener4 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much. I did want to make a dome but didn't have enough whips to do both tbh. I'll be coppiceing a second tree at the property next year, might have to squeeze one in somewhere then lol. Hazel weeving next week.

Would like to see what that fledge looks like when it grows, & about how to maintain it over time…speaking of that, what is the life expectancy of a fledge like this? How tall does it grow? Does it try to revert to growing like crowded trees, if not routinely trimmed?
@TheCountryCottageGardener2 жыл бұрын
Hi. Am sure it has been in a later video I've done. I'll have a think and pop the link on. It's now in its third year and I trim it twice a year on the face. I also remove all new growth on the arch bits lower down to keep the look. In winter I cut everything back to the trunks. Can't say about its life cycle but I can't see it turning up its roots any time soon.

How did you control the invasive roots mate?
@TheCountryCottageGardener Жыл бұрын
I didn't do anything. This ground is heavy clay and it sits very wet. Part of the reason I planted this was to help with the waterlogging

The pollarded willow at the beginning, is that 1 year of growth?
@TheCountryCottageGardener4 жыл бұрын
Hi Bruce and welcome to the channel. I pollard this Willow every two years. I have two at this property I do and will alter the years. So next year am planning on doing a dome shelter, all being well. Thanks for watching 👍

Can willows grow without ALOT of water?

They can, but prefer wet areas.

Great use of by products. I recently pollarded a mature sweet chestnut and ended up cutting and sharpening 42x3" stakes for future tree and shrub planting. Natural look to complement whatever their supporting.

Thank you. It's fantastic to reuse what we can. Such a charm to natural products. I've got hazel in my sights for next week. Thanks for watching and your support 👍
