Good news! you didnt miss much in the game boy RPG thing. it gives you attacks through the accessories you put on your guy, and just puts an enemy in front of you to attack though a menu of those attacks I just mentioned. mah bro, he figured out that if you draw a big massive body and then cover the mon' with Flaming Manes all over, it becomes a legendary and you can just cheese all the challenge out of the battles. winning gives you accessories.

The only reason I even played this game back in the day is a store called “Hollywood Video” had it for rent. I rented it like 4 times trying and failing to beat that crappy water skip mini-game and never did. I sucked at video games when I was that young. Now I’m realizing that years later on top of that the mini-game was just plain hard.

i seem to recall the existence of some game on the ps2 with a similar premise of playable creatures that you draw yourself, but it was a 3d platformer/beat'em up instead

I remember there being a flash-based creature creator for this as a promo way back in the day. Might have found it on Miniclip or on a cereal website or something. Found it in a rental place in a grocery store near me but didn't rent it for some reason. Was a neat concept. I feel like I remember the kid having brown hair and a red shirt in my head though. No idea.

I'm pretty sure the brown hair and red shirt came from the box art, maybe that's how the kid was originally intended to look and looked that way in promo material.

This game reminds me a lot of a couple of PS2 games that involve you creating your own visual monstrosities: Magic Pengel and Graffiti Kingdom. The characters and voices in those games are crap, but the gameplay is good enough that it merits at least one playthrough just to see how absurd you can make it through your "skills of an artist".

@@HauntLich okay I forgot to add, at a certain point in the game that's not very hard to get to you get full control of multiple rigs -so many- and you also get like full control over creating them from scratch and that is just so much fun that I never stopped doing that. I remember getting really good at this stupid game as a kid, and me and my cousins made every stupid monster you could imagine, I made one that was just blocks, a pencil looking one. I tried to make them look like humans, I never realized how stupid it is that you can only really play mini games with them.
