As a tie dyer, i'm very familiar with some of the processes used here. For instance, gluing on the buttons creates a resist so that dye does not penetrate where the glue was. The dyes themselves look to be a commercial, cellulose fibre-reactive dye, something like Drimarene K, Procion MX or Cibacron F dyes (i'm thinking Drimarene K), and have sodium carbonate (soda ash, also used as a washing booster) as a fixative. Note that when you're overdying like what happens later in the video, the dyes above only work on cellulose fibres, like cotton, silk, rayon, hemp or linen. Even then, the previous colours of the garment will play a role and possibly show through to a small extent. Where possible, its best to try and lighten any previous colours using a dye removing agent first, though this can be time consuming. Do NOT use bleach! Bleach attacks cellulose fibres, causing them to decay and break. In short, that shirt you tried to lighten will go a weird yellow colour then tear apart. When referring to bleach in this video, bleach is not being used - a dye removing paste that removes colour under heat, is being used.

Yep, I did wonder at the use of the word bleaching, but when I watched them mixing the whitening agent I knew right away it was not bleach when he placed the hot iron paddle under it. If it had been bleach with that treatment you would see the disaster right away. I find it funny when people say to me black is black😹😹as an artist in my paint collection I have 6 different types of black and not one of them looks alike. It’s a shame that many people can not even see the different shades of black or even other colours. I mix my own paints because of the many different shades in all colours. It’s like mixing different embroidery threads they may look the same on the outside but once you start layering them it brings petals and leaves to life. It’s the difference between looking like a flower to looking like you can reach out and pick it.

I love the fact he does old clothes with the same black dye, seeing the garments that were reds or gold coming out black giving them new life is fantastic. That’s is the best black I have ever seen would love to just have some of the fabric to make something for myself. I have bought black fabric in the past but that black was really black compared to what I have. To make mine look as good I have to add splashes of colour and this fools the eye into thinking the black is darker.
