A very brief tour showing just a fraction of the amazing vehicles on show at the Louwman Museum, The Hague, Netherlands. A truly remarkable place. The Microcar exhibition has sadly ended now. www.louwmanmuseum.nl
I had hoped to do a longer video, but I'd arrived in The Netherlands that morning, then driven about 20 miles to drive a Talbot Solara, then driven about 30 more miles back up to the museum. I was shattered! Also, I was soon massively over-stimulated by this remarkable collection of cars.

Hi Ian. The car next to the bulletnose Studebaker is a Kaiser Darrin, or Darrin Kaiser. Named to the designer John? Darrin and the manufacturer HenryJ. Kaiser.

Looks a interesting museum. I love museums with a street scene and Coventry transport museum is one of my favourites to visit even if you now have to pay for it as it flows nicely through the different era's telling a story not just about the cars but the city of Coventry as well.

DAF was absolutely not the first Dutch made car. There were a number of pre-war car manufacturers in the Netherlands. The first was Eysink (1897) , later they made motorcycles and mopeds. The most famous pre-war brand was Spyker , one of their cars competed in the Paris to Bejing rally of 1907. That rally was won by an ITALA but the Spyker did finish the rally.

Nice little tour. I see someone else has already cleared up the sliding door coupe as being a Kaiser Darrin. I love the parting shot of the 626 coupe. My wife drove a white one when we met. I didn’t appreciate what a pretty little car it was 30 years (yikes!) ago. I don’t think I ever drove it. I did work on it the weekend we met fixing a dodgy battery connection. This endeared me to my future father in law right off the bat! Good times.

Having visited last Sunday I can agree it’s a stunning collection of machinery, the automotive art section is vast too if you like that kind of thing. I managed to detour on the journey home from Classic Remise in Dusseldorf and it was definitely worth the additional miles. Oh I did find the car park a little over complicated to extricate my car from but I guess that’s my own fault for not practising my Dutch in advance.

Fantastic! I love automotive history, and what vehicles! Being American, recognised the American autos. I agree with you on the Cadillac; without the fender skirts, it looks hideous. Yes, Edsel was part of Ford, but a separate brand like Mercury, both are gone. Edsel came out when the country was going through a recession, that, poor sales and its styling caused it to be cancelled, banished only to collectors and museums. Bravo Ian, well done!

The Powerdrive (1.33) was a twin cylinder British Anzani, I was unfortunate enough to own one in my teens. The chassis was made from 'U' shaped channels with a thin steel plate spot welded to the top of the U, the spot welds on my car had unspotted, so going round a bend the rear bodywork scraped on the road. My father and I took the body off the chassis and bolted timber from a bedframe into the 'U' channels, then pop riveted the plate back on the top, worked well. Sold the car to a school friend.

2:25 - It was called Zaz Yalta built in the Ukrainian SSR. It also had almost nothing in common with the Fiat construction. BTW I can explain you why the ancient Toyota was found in Russia. A lot of old japanese cars were taken as a trophy in 1945 and somehow survived in Far East region.

Jay Leno owns also a Panhard which is from 1962 and is equipped with an 2 cylinder 850 cc engine producing 50 hp. Panhard won in 1960 the Rallye Monte Carlo averaging 6 litres of fuel on 63 miles with about 66 miles averaging in speed per hour. So it won both indexes. Afterwards Prince Rainier of Monaco used one of these Panhard PL17s as privat transportation for over 20 years when it fell nearly apart.
