Hi guys, hope you enjoy this video- a bit of a jalan jalan cari makan (food hunting) adventure around Melaka. Melaka has such an amazing food culture (not that we’re surprised 😝) and we have been eating SO WELL. Thanks to all our subscribers who recommended these places to us and special thanks to Nusa Budiman for suggesting we visit Restoran Ming Huat and for explaining the concept of muhibbah to us. We definitely agree this eatery was a living embodiment of muhibbah and as visitors to Malaysia is one of the reasons why we love your country so much! Make sure you’ve subscribed to our channel: goo.gl/9rfeRS so you don’t miss out on more food videos! Don’t forget to give the video a thumbs up if you enjoy it 👍. Thanks for watching, commenting and sharing guys. Cheers, Thomas & Sheena

Another famous Melaka food is Ikan Bakar.. Unlike others, their ikan bakar is fresh from the sea. The most famous restaurant for their ikan bakar is Parameswara Restaurant but my personal favourite is at Muara Ikan Bakar Sungai Duyong. Oh, and most restaurant that sell ikan bakar open at night.

i much prefer serkam or umbai lama not the floating one.... the fishes there are mostly fresh from the sea ie. just came off the boat.... also if and whenever in Kuala Sungai Baru, Medan Bakar persatuan Nelayan diorg.... fort supai, kuala linggi?? oklah....

👍👍 You two picked up some great recommendations indeed. I'm repeating myself I know but this is one of my favorite videos of yours. Love the variety of delicious looking and interesting (to me) dishes and all the excellent commentary. Looks like Thomas has been converted to a doughnut lover...I recall some mention of not really being in to them. I'm sure I'd prefer the kuih keria without the glaze but they looked quite tasty.
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Tosh! So glad that you enjoyed this one. It was such a great food hunting day. Pretty much the epitome of how we usually travel! I just asked Thomas if he's a doughnut convert and he said only sweet potato ones 😂 I thought the glaze would make the kuih keria very sweet but as these were covered in gula melaka it gave them a nice smoky flavour... although still quite sweet 😆 Thanks for watching and commenting Tosh! Cheers, Sheena

Another great clip from the both of you! Love love love how you guys describe the food especially the nasi lemak (which I miss so much!). Since you guys love it so much, have you ever considered making a clip with a local on how to make it at home? You guys have evolved quite a bit from your earlier vlogs, there's more focus and description of the food which is GREAT!! Love Thomas' 'boosh' description of the fiery sambal!! Keep the vlogs coming. You guys are GREAT!!

Hi Jackie Milledge! Thank you so much for the very kind comment. We love hearing from our subscribers and your support means so much to us! We were always really into food so after making videos for a while we realised that we should be focusing more on our passion and just doing the food side of things. We believe the content is much better because of the change (hopefully the subs think so too 😂😀). We'd love to make a nasi lemak with someone at home! That would be a neat video! I'd be able to get a boosh in when eating the sambal 😀😋 Once again thanks so much for the support and for taking the time to watch and comment. Cheers, Thomas 😀

Malaysians take food seriously 😂 like food makes us unite or fight haha Anyway yayyy I love that you guys are using that "jalan-jalan cari makan" slogan 😀 it's a popular catchphrase. I like that you focus on food because through food hunting you also get to see the places, understand the culture and more. We dont go to some places if not because of the food right? And the best way to see how diverse Malaysia is, through food. Btw, in case you didnt know, the word "kahwin" means marriage or married. The marriage between two kinds of food, the mee and the rojak 😀 next time just ask people the meaning of the food because so many food names are actually really interesting.
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
You are so right ParkSiQa, food is the perfect way to learn about a culture. We travel to eat and Malaysia is such an amazing country to be doing this in! Jalan jalan cari makan is the coolest slogan! We recently learnt that kawhin means married! It's such a great use of the word when it's used for dish names and makes so much sense 😀 I love the names for a lot of the kuih too! Thanks for watching ParkSiQa, hope you enjoyed the video and all the content we have coming up on the channel! Cheers, Sheena

Chasing a Plate - Food and Travel Channel Cmiiw, the catchphrase is from one of the popular food shows on tv here. And I have to tell you that you guys describe food better than the host! I have to salute both of you for having the gut to try new, foreign food. I myself usually only stick to what I love only and is afraid of trying new flavors. I wish I can be more open 🤕 Anyway, please know that you guys are becoming one of my fav youtubers. You can be Malaysia's food guide better than the locals 😂 Every time I watch your video, I need to go to the kitchen and have something to eat 😅 I will use your videos as reference in the future and search those places you go. Can you believe that you are now guiding the locals? 😂😂😂 Thank you for your effort and have fun travelling! 💞 P/s: Food names can sometimes be really funny, smart, or sometimes offensive. 😅😅

I love your channel! I'm moving to Malaysia soon and it's great to see how many options I have. Once concern though...seems like they use a TON of plastic there. You should consider purchasing reusable straws and bags to carry around your travels :) you'll be doing the world a lot of good
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
Hi Nicole Waithira! How exciting that you're moving to Malaysia! There is SOOOO much incredible food there. We return in two days time after being in South Korea and Singapore and we can't wait! There is a lot of plastic (like every country) but there are some easy ways around it that we use. Always eat in when possible as most places use reusable plates etc (we do carry our own chopsticks with us everywhere we go but these are pretty much never needed in Malaysia because they don't use throw away ones for eat in at most Chinese places). I almost always order a hot drink so I don't get a straw. Asking to not get a straw with a cold drink almost never works, even when you really insist. We find this happens it almost every country we visit. We've tried and tried asking for no straw and by far the most effective way around it is to order a hot drink (teh tarik is amazing in Malaysia so a hot one is my go to order). And like you mentioned we always carry a few reusable bags with us so almost never need a plastic bag. Thanks for watching this one and we hope all our Malaysian content helps you out! Where are you moving in Malaysia? Cheers, Thomas 😀

Chasing a Plate - Food and Travel Channel Thank you Sheena for the reply. Do make a video on "the A-Z of travelling fulltime" because I'm just curious what makes you both decided to adventure into fulltime travelling. Any tips? Your review is awesome as always. For the mee kahwin we also called it mee rojak or rojak mee. For the coconut shake maybe next time you could try the original (with no ice cream) and if you notice the entrance there's small take away stall for coconut shake, that's the original stall (the first before the open up the restaurant). For the kuih keria (some called it kera) you went to the right shop. We called it the husband shop which way better taste n service compared to the wife's (sorry meant no harm). Well you guys are still great as usual. Thanks for the review.
@ChasingaPlate7 жыл бұрын
Hi Tengku B, thanks so much for watching and for the information! It was strange with the coconut shake as we ordered the original but then noticed we got charged for the special and then when we asked for the original again we were told that was it. We thought perhaps they only were serving the specials as literally every shake that was being ordered had ice cream in it.... We'll try again next time 😀 So glad we went to that kuih keria shop, It was SO GOOD! Thanks for watching and for commenting mate. Cheers, Sheena
