I thought for a maximum performance takeoff that you get into position, hold your brakes until the engines are at maximum takeoff thrust, and then release brakes?

Think they we're referring to the runway used. As in that was the shortest runway they could really hope to use on that day/weight etc. Look how little was left after rotation.

Maybe Insel Air has different procedures but my airline and every airline I've flown jumpseat on requires a V2 callout (usually occurs near lift-off). Also, all required the pilot not flying to call "positive rate" or "positive climb" before the pilot flying commands "gear up".

@@Milkmans_Son Mike Vr is lower than V2. If you rotate at the manufacturer's recommended rate (2-3 degrees/sec.) you'll reach Vlof (liftoff speed) at liftoff attitude (6-9 degrees nose up depending on the jet and flap setting) and V2 by 35' above the runway. In line ops most guys rotate closer to the 2 degrees/second and V2 occurs at or soon after liftoff. They are different speeds.

Not true. All four MD-80 aircraft are still operating and Insel are looking to acquire more. Preferably MD-83.

Hmmm, look at the window molding near the bottom. Looks kinda roached out. Wondering what the other parts of the plane look like that rarely see the light of day. Actually it looks like they put strips of wide black tape across the top of the dash.

+stonebrownalien The use of an electronic device such as a camera won't cause interference as it's not a transmit/receive device. If you've flown recently, they no longer ask you to turn off electronic devices but only to ensure that they are in airplane mode so that they are not transmitting. A cell phone won't "take down" an airplane, but you may have experienced the flickering sound that a stereo makes when a cell has an incoming text or call? Imagine the Captain or FO trying to get an IFR clearance over the radio with 450 cell phones within a 200ftx20ft sending and receiving transmissions, or listening for the order to Go Around because another airplane taxi'd on to the runway in near zero visibility conditions.

+TheXcaliber223 I use an iPad myself, but it's for charts that I download at home in PDF prior to flying and for checklists. When iPads are used for navigation, they have aviation specific hardware to connect them.
