Great video! I'm sure the 1st officer is doing better now. He seems to have good SA, but he missed the 80/100 kt call, the Vr call, the positive climb/rate call and had a tough time changing the active waypoint on climbout. None the less, I'm glad he has a right seat jet job and I'm sure he'll do well.

Aloha +JinC and+ JG awa +haitiano1982, first to start thank you Captain for the series of wonderful up-close-and-personal-videos...its like Take The World To Work Day! You are a brave man, sir, to open yourself to the well meaning (or not) critique of us who think we know but really don't. So to all: plz excuse this step-in but..1st Officer calls 100kt.@1:54, and calls Vr@2:07. But he indeed seems to miss the positive climb rate call until the Captain calls vertical speed is one thousand five hundred@3:25. As for his (1st Officer) difficulty changing the active waypoint, my first observation is to call a tie between who was first; the Captain calls it while his 1st Officer is reaching to the FMS computer. But concerning his "tough time" it is pretty clear @3:45-4:11 that he is not getting the results from his efforts that he is expecting. Mahalo all for allowing this comment, hope I wasn't too maha'oi...Aloha

If these are the latest version of the DC-9...they are the smoothest landing airplanes I've ever landed in. It seems like every time I was on a dc-9 { MD-80 } you can't even TELL when the wheels touch the ground. Even in a horrible crosswind etc. Not sure why but I always felt like congratulating the captain on the way out. One time in Miami I remember being able to SEE the run way right up to the point when the wheels touched... That ain't supposed to happen...seeing as my window was on the SIDE of the airplane..HAHAHA Can you say Crosswind...Hmph...Smooth as silk...

NTT Tablets Measured by accident data alone, the MD-80 is considered to be one of the safest planes in the sky. According to Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the plane has a fatal hull loss rate - meaning a crash involving fatalities - of 0.34 per one million departures, and an overall hull-loss, or crash, rate of 0.52 per million departures. By comparison, the average record for all commercial jets is 0.89 fatal hull losses per million departures, and an overall rate of 1.64 hull losses per million departures, Boeing said.

Hatiano - 1st of all - love your videos - in particular the MD80 ones.Cannot get enough :) - Not sure if you are still monitoring the channel but If I may ask a question : I noticed the captain (you?) was manually forcing the throttles despite the atho throttles not being in CLMP mode. Was the A/T on the MD80 not fully reliable? - and am guessing no VNAV on this aircaft. Thanks again - Lucky to still have a few continue to fly here in the US.
@haitiano1982 Жыл бұрын
Hey whatsup. I do monitor frm time to time. Yeah i was forcing it, i think they call it override it. The a/t was very reliable but as a pilot you can anticipate a little on when its gonna power up and what you u see me doing was me making that transition to where the a/t would react a lot smoother. So basically im reacting prior to the a/t and it translates to a smoother ride for the pax. Wasn’t required though
@craigmack.527 жыл бұрын
How do they keep the plane at the centerline of the runway? How do they make those somewhat precise turns? I don't see them using the rudder pedals to steer the plane.

Noticed he waited to deploy reverse thrust until after the nose touched down (or so it seems). Is this a standard technique on the md80??
@pilot_ricky5 жыл бұрын
Yes this is a standard procedure on the MD80. The "doors" (clam-shell like) that pilots deploy in order to reverse the thrust could hit the ground if the aircraft had it's nose up. In order to avoid this, we only deploy reverse thrust with our main wheel on the ground!

MD-80 the best airplane ever. I have 4000hrs on MD, went to 737NG after that. MD-80 is a comfortable space shuttle compared with 737... The only things which are better on NG are engines and wing, of course as it came out much later.
@AADFWspotters29 жыл бұрын
+Stjepan Bedić Wow. How was the transition form the 80 to the NG?
@stjepanbedic21539 жыл бұрын
Dissapointing honestly. Only the engines and wing are better on ng. For example, md80 autopilot works in all cases on go around you have more room in the cockpit, a folding table, an annunciator panel, aural warnings, automatic switching of generators, flaps on both hydr systems, much higher speeds for flap and gear extension, silent cockpit etc. 737ng is like a converted ww2 bomber.
@joelt44168 жыл бұрын
+Stjepan Bedić What is that weird warning horn that keeps going off all the time?????
@stjepanbedic21538 жыл бұрын
It marks stabilizer trim movement. If stabilizer moves for more than a few seconds, first you hear the horn and after that "Staiblizer motion" aural warning. If Fly Dubai 737 had this, they would still be with us probably.
@joelt44168 жыл бұрын
maybe maybe not. millions of 737s fly in those conditions and proficient pilots know what to do .
@NishanKapuge8 жыл бұрын

what happens if both persons put their hands on the steering wheel and start moving in the opposite direction? is there a override for captain?

lulu mink They both move as one if that makes sense. What's done on one side is done on the other 'yoke'
@nikobelic4251 Жыл бұрын
In that case the yokes “break” and each side will act independently Whoever is strongest then controls the plane.
