Really nice synth. As a person who loves aesthetics, it has a good look and layout. Reminds me of a proper poly from the 80's. The 61 key keyboard is a win, with a great set of features for the price. I will probably consider this as my next polysynth and overall I think Moog should do well with this issue.

I think the sound of the oscillators and filters are excellent. That’s what matters. It looks well laid out, and has some very good features. The arpeggiator, sequencer, and chord functions are really nice. Looks terrific. It might have difficulty competing with the Polybrute 12, which is a beast. This is a bit cheaper though, and doesn’t weigh as much.

If I didn’t already own a Minimoog Voyager Electric Blue (built while Dr. Robert Moog was still with us) but did have money I wished to spend on a nnew Moog synthesizer, Muse *could* be the synth I would choose. It would be like having 3 different models that previously fascinated me in one model, the OB-8, the Prophet T-8 and the Memorymoog Plus. As of August 2024 when I’m commenting, I did just purchase an ASM Hydrasynth Explorer, and its polyphonic aftertouch (polytouch, as ASM IDs it) was one of the selling points; I connected it to my MKS-70 module and enjoyed utilizing the polytouch as a controlling feature. That being said, I’ve owned since 1997 five different synths with channel aftertouch (four of which I still have), and I don’t deny its usefulness.

What a great video of an awesome new synthesizer. Thanks for sharing! It definitely gives off a lot of Prophet-6 vibes in terms of usability. Like the Prophet-6, which was designed to be a successor to the P5, this instrument seems to aim for the same goal, but perhaps even better or in a unique way. While the Moog One is a sound designer's dream, it can be a bit more complicated and overwhelming and where the Matriarch and Model 15 sound incredible too, they don't save patches. This synth seems to have solved these problems. After working with it for a month, you'll likely feel right at home, like it fits as comfortably as your favorite jacket. We could be utterly wrong ofcourse... How would you describe it SanjayC?

Yes you can.. $295 a month and it’s yours. You can also get that by taking $295 a month and putting it into a CD that earns 3%-5% and you’ll have this about paid for in 6-7 months at least a 3rd of it . There’s ways to get the gear you want without going broke or into debt. . Option 2: get it on a 12 months 0% Interest credit card. Put away $295 a month and it’s yours. Option 3. Work a part time job for 2-4 hours 5 days week and stash the cash for 5-7 months. Most times when people say they can’t afford something. It’s usually they don’t want to work extra for it. Life is short .. enjoy it .. work and buy the synth.

Thank you for this!!! A couple of questions. Can the Muse ACCEPT polyAT from an external keyboard? And can the parameters be controlled from a DAW via MIDI such that one can “record” a performance including parameter changes and playback (and change those parameters) later, as so many synths including Sub37 can?

I'm trying to male a decision, the Moog or the Roland Fantom- what do you recommend? Or are the boards just different and used for different things?
@davlippo73 ай бұрын
Fantom is a digital board that does almost everything using many sound engines but isn't true analog. The Moog is a true analog that only does analog so depends on what you need or want. I'd wait for the new Fantom probably years down the road or get a Montage M now if you want everything except for true and only analog. M & F can do synthetic analog but a lot more like samples of real instruments and a tons of them. Thousands of them in fact. PolyBrute12 is another analog option. True analog machines are mostly for die-hard, must have analog people and they aren't cheap and don't do anything else. It's way more bang for your dollar to get the Montage M as it currently dominates synths until the next gen Fantom is released.

Great demo. I'll be sticking with my Moog One for now, as this is still a downgrade to the One. But I can understand if someone else sells their One for the Muse. It seems to be more for players than synth patch creators. Not having polyphonic aftertouch is still wild to me. And I agree with someone else in the comments; it sounds more like a Jupiter 8 than a Moog. Which isn't bad. Unless you view it as a bad thing......

It would be great to have a modern synth like the Muse but with a more interesting sound engine of a Deckard's Dream, Solar 42, Taiga, or even the lowly DSI TETR4... something that lends itself to more outside the box sound design. The Muse doesn't sound bad at all, but it's more of white bread go to working synth than I think Moog is capable of producing. Innovation is missing.

Thank you for a great informative video. You are always great! I believe the level that the software instruments have reached in recent years is so impressive that "on a budget people" will not spend this big money on an instrument like the muse. For that price, you can get sound libraries that are unbelievable. But, yeah - if you are without a mother keyboard... but then again, there are so much better keyboards for half the price, so... Conclusion - It is not futuristic enough or comparable with the best from UDO or the ASM Hydra series, Arturia, etc. That is only my humble opinion today! Love from Mr Apa

@Jexus4 ай бұрын
Thanks Sanjay for the video! ❤ Anyone who is interested, let me quickly highlight how this synth is unique or interesting IMO: - the LFOs, apart from the usual shapes, come with complex custom shapes (the "+" symbol above the waveform button) - in the dual VCOs there is a wavemix feature where you can set the balance of levels between pulse and triangle / saw (/which you can also mix freely!) - you can program a lot of generative behavior into the sequencer with gate, velocity and note chance / probability for more unpredictability - there's dual timbre addressing in the sequencer so it can play both timbres at once or only chosen notes for timbre A and B (which makes it more fun!) - in the mod matrix you can use functions to change the well-known shapes of sine, square LFOs into uniquely new ones, or create custom curves for envelopes / aftertouch response, etc. - the mixer allows for a clean mix of all analog sources but you can also use the overload slider to overdrive the signal like the classic Moog CP-3 mixer does - the delay works like vintage digital rack units in that it's highly configurable and can provide stereo delays with ping pong behavior, filtered multi-tap tape echo-style delays, or reverb + dreamy chorused-diffusion trails. Generally it's a sonic playground for time-based effects. Thank you Moog!!!
@paxson20004 ай бұрын
Yo Jexus also one thing i love about the bi-timbral nature of the Muse is stacking timbres A and B, programming a sequence on one and then running the arpeggiator on the other. Makes for some polyrhythmaphonic SAUCE. Be well

Oooh dude also using looping envelopes as a modulation source for the frequency modulation of the oscillators makes for some radical sound design potential. Really clangy type stuff

Nice vid. I am not so involved by this device as a first introduction. I hear a nice sound but a bit soft and old-fashioned. Synthesizers in the sixties were the instruments able to play completely new sounds. That was the spirit of Moog Modular. Today we are used to wavetables and screaming filters plus powerful digital effects. I think that a synth nowadays should be more innovative and limit breaking. A classic example: Hydrasynth deluxe...

The reason why I stepped away from a lot of synth hardware gear. A poor man's Moog and all I can make of it a polyphonic analog synth with a Moog label. While heavily priced, other Moog's actually have that sound. For this money there are so much better analog alternatives. The same reason I kicked out my sequentials. A Moog One, god forbid the price, but honestly, sound wow ....this...to much money for just another boring analog synth...
