In this video I talk about the things you need to do and understand to make a Natural golf swing. At set up you need to feel at ease stood over the golf ball, you need to address the ball correctly in good posture. An understanding of good body turn and weight shift is really important. Coordinating body and arms is important to become consistent. Holding a balanced finish will enable you to hit good shots after good shots and adding speed and body mass at the right point will send your ball sailing down the fairway with effortless efficiency. There is no need to play golf with complicated swing thoughts as you have a natural golf swing and I can help you discover it.

Hi Julian, just wanted to say thanks! I am 51 y/o returning to golf. I was a strong junior player but since 17 y/o I’ve played a couple of times a year maximum. I started playing again about 3 months ago and today I shot 40 for nine - my best 9 hole score for 34 years! Swinging easy is really helping 👍

The thing that revolutionised my game was when my grandad (who was a top amateur player) taught me how to feel the weight of the club head and swing it naturally. He told me to never try to put the club into positions. He said the club would find those positions naturally through swinging. It makes you feel the forces and momentum. Once I did this I basically became a scratch player quickly because I was always swinging naturally and never analysed my swing again on video. It’s all about feel. I realised that no mid handicapper has ever actually swung the club. They have tension, they work on positions, they force and manipulate the club. It’s very difficult not to be scratch as long as you swing naturally.

Thanks Julian. We have been watching and enjoying your lessons and wow, what a difference this has made. For us, a nice free flowing turn, weight shift and a balanced finish is key. Keeping loose and relaxed and the ball is really taking off. In fact, the ball speed has increased. Fantastic. Thanks again.

An excellent summary of your teaching methods of the proper golf swing. If anyone hasn’t viewed the wealth of instructional videos that you have produced over the years, they are missing out on the best of the best. Once an individual (young or old, beginner or experienced) catches on to your method and practices it they will have no need to watch the ton of KZbin contributors who feel they have the magic to improve your game. You have it all here and it has worked for me at the age of 74. Crack on Julian. 👍👨‍🦳🇨🇦

Julian, you helped me a lot during our motivating online lessons. You live what you say that is you build on the existing personal swing and help to get rid of obvious mistakes and to transfer to a swing without 100 drills and details. Yes, one has to get the basics right. And yes repetition is needed. But the more one gets lost in the internet jungle of golf videos the more confusing it gets. To brake with some stereotypes has helped me, too. I’m glad that you support me getting better, despite my health constraints. I’d like to add that exercising for strength, flexibility and balance in a gym, at home or on a fitness trail is important for overall fitness but also for golf. Also, warming up and cooling down is neglected by most but is so important. Talk soon, Peter

I love your videos. You speak of coordination. My question is about what you feel on the downswing. Is it your body leading your arms or your arms leading your body? Thank you
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
The clubhead has the furthest to travel followed by the hands, arms and body so it should be in that order, Steve
@stevemarcus3902
@stevemarcus3902 Жыл бұрын
@@JulianMellor So you talk about coordination with the body and arms in sync, when you start the downswing, you feel your hands and arms coming down which causes the body to turn? The reason I ask is because I am in my late 60"s and have been playing for 55+ years. I was always a body swinger. Rotate the hips and have passive hands and arms. I worked for me for many years getting down to a 6 handicap. But now being older, my body doesn't quite work as well and my back is complaining. So I have been trying to change to a more hands and arms dominated swing. It is much better on my back, but change is difficult.

Julian, I’ve watched your videos for a long time. My coach has been emphasizing hip turn on my swing. But, I increase tension when I do this. What role does hip turn play in the easy swing you teach?
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor Ай бұрын
There is no reason the correct turn should increase tension if you know how, your coach should know how to do that 👍

Thank you for all your videos. I have just started to change my swing from a single plane to your flowing balanced swing. I have 2 hip replacements and 2 back surgeries with a pinched nerve on my right leg that does not allow much feeling. My question is on the downswing before impact, is your hands and right hip facing the ball at that time? I have been told to get my hands down by my pocket when impacting the ball. I am trying to find the feeling of where I should be before impact. When I impact the ball, I am facing the ball. But watching yours and other videos, it looks like your facing out to the target at impact. Thank You
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your interesting comment. Rather than thinking about impact try this. From the top of your backswing to the finish of your swing make it feel like one fluid motion and let the ball get in the way. I’ve found it very restrictive for golfers to think about impact position. I’ll be interested to hear how you get on.

my question is does the back of the left wrist need to be facing the target at impact or can it be facing the right of the target. I have found that I have to strengthen my grip to hit it straightish. For the life of me I can't supinate my left wrist enough to have it point at the target at impact. Is this a match up thing with my body anatomy?
@JulianMellor
@JulianMellor 11 ай бұрын
Hi Nathan, depending on your grip at set up. If you’ve got a strong grip and your wrist is pointing to the target at impact you’ll find your club face closed and visa versa. I would pay more attention to club face rather than your left hand 🫲
