I also think KZbin is saturated with château channels and there’s only so many you can watch. I watch Dan, Terry and Ash, and Patrick and Stuart. I used to watch others but their true character showed through (one convicted thief, one grifter, and one total narcissist.) and only came to Patrick and Stuart via Terry. Patrick and Stuart are the real McCoy, like Dan and Terry. It’s only going to take the algorithm one trick 👍

Leave the silk as it is. The shape, the patterns, and the color depend on each other. Another color or material would have inspired another shape and another pattern. At first, it might seem a little old-fashioned but at second sight it's very elegant. 🐈🐈🐈🐱

Aloha Patrick and Stuart, heavens, I was holding my breath the whole time you were rinsing that phonomanal silk work of art😅. It had a sort of iridescent shine to it as it started to dry. Due to its age and delicate nature I’d leave it as is plus it matches the cane furniture.A million years ago when I was in show business making my own costumes, bras were either white or black so I would boil a pot of water and put in a few Lipton tea bags and let it soak for awhile -voila - flesh colored bra and then I would sew on the beads and rhinestones (trade secret.) Loved seeing Figaro make himself right at home on the bed. He’s a walking miracle from when you first rescued him. Can’t wait to see the completed bed crown🏰.

The restoration of the bed crown has progressed nicely. The pleated fabric looks nice and I like the rosette you created. The lighter color of the silk may blend well with the wallpaper and I would not color it. The original patina maintains the historical aspect. Another grand job. Take care my friends, Ralph Rocchiccioli

The bedcrown is fasinating, and what a lovely blue color the fabric was! The smocked silk is incredible!!! Dyeing it would be risky, I think, and the wood beads could cause uneven coloring of the silk strands tied to the beads. Leaving it as it was all of those years ago just feels right. It appears that the color matches the wallpaper and quilt too! So lovely!❤

I think the braided silk fringe looks nice as is, but if you wanted it lighter, I thought I’d share that since all ladies undergarments and many summer dresses were white, they washed them, then rinsed them with lemon water to bleach them. Then they are left to dry outside in the sun on the lawns.

I cam no expert on sewing or whitening antique fabric, but I do like it as it is. It goes well with the bed frame and present wallpaper, so I would keep it as it is. As you were doing the pleating I was reminded of my grandmother and an aunt that used to take old faded clothes apart and turn inside out for the younger children. They always looked new. Those were the depression days. I remember my grandfather tell a story of working hard labor in the priest's garden and having to sit on the steps begging to be paid with a loaf of rye bread that had to feed a family of 8. His faith never faltered. Imagine what they went through. My grandmother wouldn't teach her 2 daughters to sew or bake as she didn't want them to have to work so hard. They did learn after they got married as it was cheaper at the time. Figaro reminds me of our cat, Kacey. Same coloring, but Kacey is long-haired and looks like a Maincoon. Hope you had a Happy Halloween. Hugs.❤

I saw a recent video that you were washing. Someone suggested that you use baby shampoo because it is very mild. As a former hairdresser I can tell you that baby shampoo is very strong. It is meant to break up cradle cap. The shampoo uses a numbing agent, like the stuff you spray in your throat when you have a very sore throat. Maybe Castile soap would work.

I have to agree with most of the comments, the fabric is too delicate to bleach, and I wouldn’t go darker, it actually looks as though it would complement the cane from the bed frame. Well done Patrick, you’re a talented man! I agree with everyone that you should keep the current silk colour. To change the colour you would have to add a fairly dark and intense colour because of the current colour. Or bleach it which I think may prove disastrous. I think if the bed crown is to remain in the current room, then the colour works and I’m sure you could eventually find a curtain fabric which would harmonise with the silk colour. Of course, do your research for dyeing and bleaching methods for antique silk before making a final decision. I trust you both will make a wise decision. It was good to see Figaro again too! Hugs and a bientot! ❤️❤️🐈

Ohhhhhh! I see Figgy!!! Have you introduced her to the pups? As a professional in Textiles, I appreciate you breaking down the crown construction. I am thinking the tacks are 1/2 inch apart which is common in high end, quality antiques. I see that the gathers are almost perfect and certainly beautiful. Oh how I wanted to help with this project!!!! Just to touch the fabric would have been exciting for me. I enjoyed this video. Thank you both for sharing your lives with us.
@RC-fo2xqАй бұрын
I use two towels when when removing water from delicate textiles. With heavier textiles, I prefer to use the towel process twice, using fresh towels the second time. Also, put fabric on a netting to dry so it can breath. The yarn appears to be silk which is the reason it became shiny when clean. I would use as is whether in this room or another. Please don't attempt to dye it.

I restore fabric literally every day - I use Dawn dish soap and it wonderful! So, as far as beaching goes on old fabric, I add Dawn with bleach and water (about a tablespoon of soap and about 4 tablespoons of bleach, cover with water) and let soak a few days and change the formula and repeat as needed. So basically 1:4 and cover with water depending on the size of the item you are bleaching. If you just soak in bleach that's when damage occurs to old fabric. When dying less is best - go in light, check it and add more colour if needed. With old fabric it's a slow process because if you go in like you would on new fabric your item is a mess.

Powdered Oxiclean laundry additive is also recommended for soaking/cleaning antique fabric items. You might check for its availability. I was pretty surprised that something that boosts your detergent is mild enough for antique fabric. I've used it successfully on fragile tatting as well as linens. You put the powder in the water to dissolve before adding your item. You let it soak. Rince with clean water. Repeat if needed.

What a good job. Love the fabric as is. It will be beautiful once you finish the bed crown.

You are making do due with the room until you are ready to change it. The room looks nice as it is for friends and family. You are right the rose of the bed crown is drooping.

Apart from washing, I wouldn’t fiddle with the silk but i think it would enhance an old gold or bronze fabric.

Cutie Figaro playing in the background 😊❤ I like the pin you are wearing, Patrick. It looks like Wedgewood.

My initial thought was to dye it since the current color is a bit boring. My only hesitation is its age. If you believe that there is significant historical value in it, that would be enough to give me pause. If not, then I say, 'Go for it.' My usual strategies for lightening fabric are all likely to damage the silk. Sunlight might work without sustaining too much damage, but I'm no expert. Good luck! ❤️ from TX!

Thank you so much. I think we will leave it as is. After it has now dried, it is actually quite pretty. Huge hugs 😊😊
