Very nice build. Finally a build on KZbin where the majority of the weight is not solely supported by screws (dados). I cringe when I see people make KZbin videos, such as building a big fish tank stand, where the majority of the weight is mainly supported by screws.

Yes the manufacturers recommend screwing in on the peaks. If this were for a more important roof like for a house, I would definitely recommend going in the peaks. Being that it is just a garden benchtop roof, I think you will be ok! :) Nice project btw I am afraid to show this to my wife because she will most certainly want one!

Sir, just finding your channel researching potting benches was a wonderful find for me. Spending my career in the metal fabrication field makes me familiar, but not experienced with wood fabrication. Your videos are extremely educational and I am learning so many things from just the 2 videos I’ve watched. My wife and I are moving from Southern California to our dream forever more home in the Pacific Northwest very soon where I can have my mini farm and huge shop. Where we can live our best 1/2 of life. I might even share my knowledge on KZbin and pay it forward. Thank you so very much for sharing yours.

Thanks for the video, you do good work. I was happy to find your channel. There are corrugated strips of wood available so you can install the screws in the peaks, putting them in the valleys leave you open to the risk of water droplets in the event of rain. However, the probability of anyone being out in the rain potting up plants is slight. Having the screws in the valleys will be protection enough from the sun.

Many people screw corrugated metal at the peaks but that’s a mistake, because in order for the rubber washers to do their jo, you end up applying too much torque and this distorts the corrugated metal shape. Screws go in the valleys and that also prevents the corrugated metal to have movement. There is however a correct way to screw at the peak by using a piece that’s basically a seat made out of plastic and makes up for the free space and allows you to tighten the screws without distorting the corrugated metal. As always I enjoyed very much your video and I like how neat your projects are. Thanks for sharing!

Just a thought about ergonomics: If the bottom 2x4 is moved to the inner side of the post some shelf-space is lost but it may improve ergonomics since the person working at the potting bench can stand closer to the countertop; or even simpler just make the countertop a little wider. Looking forward to the video where you pour the countertop.

Nice work. But yes, the screws should be on top of the corrugated metal, not in the valley as they can eventually leak. Lay all sheets on top of each other, mark screw positions and predrill for each screw.

Beautiful. Where do one typically source wood for pergolas and such structures? Interestingly, these are all dimensional lumber items but at same time use specialty woods, like western red cedar or Douglas Fur, not the kind of dimensional lumber one finds at HD or Lowes, which are typically pine or some other very rough looking crap. I hit a few alternative lumber yards and they were either focused on cabinet/furniture making (selling mostly hardwood boards) or they were focused on construction lumber, selling the same crap one finds at HD or Lowes. This seems to be a in between product I cannot find. Tks

The rubber grommet won't corrode. It degrades in the sunlight. When it does then the roof will leak.
@namulit3 жыл бұрын
That should take a long time, though, as most of the grommet is covered and the sunlight won't reach it, only the heat. Is the material even rubber?
@kenshores99003 жыл бұрын
@@namulit It will happen quicker than you think. I just don't like having to fool with things twice. The choice is up to the individual. I am just saying that is what will happen.
@russellborrego16893 жыл бұрын
@@kenshores9900, it'll degrade weather it's in the peak or the valley of the panel, no? Actually, the argument could be made that in the valleys, they'll be exposed to less sun as the peaks will potentially shade them with the peaks as the sun rises and sets... and degrade slower. I understand the manufacturers want the screws through the peaks and why, but it also makes sense not to as well doesn't it?

@@russellborrego1689 Don’t necessarily disagree. If you add a dab of silicone caulk will extend the life regardless of where it is.
