When I stumbled upon this vintage teak table at a thrift store for $4.99, I didn’t plan to restore it, let alone create a video about it. But sometimes, life presents unexpected opportunities. Armed with a budget-friendly orbital sander, eco-friendly finish remover, and a few hours of patience, I set out to transform this damaged piece into something meaningful. Teak is a durable hardwood often used in mid-century Scandinavian furniture. With its strong grain and timeless appeal, I knew this piece had potential. Along the way, I tackled stubborn stains, experimented with tools, and embraced imperfections that make each piece unique. This year has been a rollercoaster, filled with incredible milestones-like reaching 100,000 subscribers-and personal challenges. Many of you have shared your own stories with me, and they’ve been a source of encouragement. It’s through these connections that I realized restoration isn’t just about furniture-it’s about the therapeutic process of creating, healing, and sharing. My dad's entire house was in Danish, mid-century modern from the late 1960's to the early 1970's. They only oiled their furniture, and it alwasy had the perfect finish on the wood. He would have displayed that table in his house with pride. Very well done! Brilliant as always.

As always a beautiful piece is shining again. I found refurbishing furniture and word working after the unexpected death of my hubby. He was only 53. I'm more of an old soul, and for some reason, I'm drawn to VERY OLD natural wood furniture. However, from watching your channel I'm beginning to appreciate some-mid century modern furniture. I have a few end/side tables I will be refinishing when the weather gets a little warmer. My husband doesn't appreciate it when I work on things in the house 😂. I'm not sure why. It's just a little dust, stripper, denatured alcohol, stain, and mostly shellac smells.😂 what could go wrong? The table turned out fanatics. Great job.

You're right, teak is a very sturdy wood. I spent 1985 to 1989 walking the teak deck of USS Missouri. It's ability to take rough treatment and still maintain it's looks is legendary. The teak deck of USS Arizona is still largely intact after being under seawater for 84 years. The table is quite beautiful and kudos to you.

They left a teak coffee table, it was in the same shape as yours. I had no experience in refinishing at that time, so I painted it. What a disaster. If only I had known then. I have that same Lane box. It was my moms and I love these wooden boxes. Teak- darn near indestructible. Hi Barry, Fear not, you have MANY years to keep doing what you love. I'm 82 now, and still refinish furniture, like your teak table, which I then donate to non-profits for them to resell. It's a great way to use my little shop, with many refurbished tools as old as you are, while still giving service to those who need it. Next time you run into a stain like the one on the table, give oxalic acid a try. Usually works on most stains, though I haven't tried it on teak. Watco's Danish oil might have been a good finish too. I like to let 2 coats sink in with a good wipe down after about 10 minutes. Then let it dry for 48 hours, and then put a coat of satin poly oil-based varnish on. Very durable, and you don't have to refresh the finish frequently like you do with just an oil finish. Also resists stains, and can still be easily fixed if it gets dinged.

My mom has a table that her great great grandfather built for the original homeplace, I walk by it ever day and wonder, when it's passed down to me if I have the guts to give it some TLC. It's old and VERY dark not sure if it's ebony or just walnut with centuries of use on top.

I think this video was actually a gift for me ;) I live in Søborg, Denmark, and Søborg Møbelfabrik actually still exists. It was founded in 1890 and has manufactured - and still do - high quality furniture in great Danish design. The factory produces mainly office furniture and classic items designed by e.g. Børge Mogensen, Christian Hvidt, Kai Lyngfeldt Larsen and Mogens Lassen. Teak is an extremely beautiful natural color wood and grain. I was wondering why you didn't try oxalic acid on the stain? I believe this was an awesome find. A true MCM piece and a great addition to any home.

That table turned out beautiful. I can see it being used as a toddler’s table with 2 toddler size straight back chairs to go with it. It should last a long time.

I love thrift stores! I’ve learned the art of packing a paper grocery bag very well for their bag day sales. This table is so beautiful. I love the wood grain, and you did such a great job with getting rid of the stain.
