Swiss guy here. The nice road section after Andermatt is called Oberalp-Pass. It's actually one of the multiple places where the Rhine springs from. They mow the grass for the cows or other farm animals. When the weather allows it, they leave it on the meadow for a while so it turns into hay, which gets stored for winter, when they need to feed the animals who are indoors most of the time. This also means that ground erosion isn't as much of a problem as it would be if you wouldn't care for the meadows. Bonus: It always looks nice and clean.

They need the grass for feeding the cattle when they have to stay in the stable, e.g. in winter. This grass will be dryed and this gives hay. Farmers here relay on that. Glad you liked the road I used to ride.

That's the road that starts right in town in Andermatt. It really is a fantastic place to base yourself. Many passes very close. Ride all day: Furka/Grimsel/Susten loop is 120 km...of that 100km is twisties.... drink beer at night. Repeat...

Hey man don't listen to the people asking for videos of you moaning, the better of us can see your life has changed for the better over the last few years and you've become much more positive with your life and it reflects on the great content on your channel. These people are the sort that want a moan about something that, they themselves could change but they're lazy arseholes that will never reach there goals. The channel has adapted to you and its superb .. keep it up man !

I love your videos through Switzerland. (if this is Switzerland) It's so.. quaint and looks so refreshing. They really make me relaxed and put me in a GREAT mood. I actually love watching these in the evening and I go to sleep totally day dreaming of bike adventures. I went a 137 miles today on my Ninja 300 with my girlfriend haha. We went on a 400+ miles little trip earlier this summer. That bike is incredibly uncomfortable two up I will say. Very lacking in power as well but hey First Bike problems. I think it's hilarious from watching your channel at 10,000 subs with angry London traffic rants. Now to just.. surreal trips and events. These edits constantly refill any lost motivation and just show what happens with hard work. Completely dismissing any obstacles I've had in a month that idiots would sit around and gossip about. I've had some confidence issues with just going chasing certain goals. Like "This is different from what others are doing am I sure this is the right decision?" To being "These goals fit what for what I want to accomplish and for what I hope to achieve." Baron Von Mentor, showing that in order to fail you first need to go for it. Your success is motivational to me.

Nice to see this road when it's not closed and covered in snow! Just stayed here last week in December to ski, and this route was closed. Though we were on holiday for a ski trip, I could tell this would be a good area to come back to with my motorcycle group in the summer months. Andermatt is a pretty young town, most of it constructed within the last decade. Looking forward to warmer months so I can return here!

Chris. I think you will find that they cut the grass in the summer, because in the winter, all the animals are kept in sheds, and that is for their food. Also, in the summer, the animals go up in to the high grazing, so the grass down low can be grown. (spent many years teaching skiing in bavaria, and that was what happened there.)

Lovely ride, much better than the motorway! 3:18 Train! They are mowing for hay! I think. And they mow that way to help with water retention. Although they probably don't realize the latter. LOL When you mow across a hill the grass grows thicker because it retains more water when it rains. I do remember some things from school. (Grin) Also if you let it fall back on the ground it serves as a mulch shading the roots. (Gee I'm on a roll. I can hear the professor going on and on about this....) Age is not limiting, just a tad slower is all.
@mjordan8126 жыл бұрын
Vexoro nailed it. I usually spend a few days in Andermatt each summer riding the local roads. You probably missed a spectacular small road that goes along the Rheinschlucht from Flims to Bonaduz on your way to Chur. Add it to your list. Trivia bit - Bonaduz is where the VorderRhein and HinterRhein come together to form the Rhein. Great videos - It's nice to be able to sightsee when someone else is driving. ;-)

ok first off its sooo awsome to hear you say the names of swiss villages hahaha so funny 😂 secound the grass cutting is no legaly required but the farmers do it to get straw because the animals cant eat any grass during winter because there is snow all over the place. That's also why they all drive subaru's 😊 awsome vid man!

I can't believe he didn't make the connection with the cattle that were there, that they would be needing hay to feed them, especially over winter with all the snow in those mountains. Makes grazing a bit difficult.

They are cutting the grass to make hay for the winter months. Not a lot of usable land here what with the mountains and built up areas, hence farmers must utilize every inch they can. Sometimes even cutting grass on steep mountain sides by hand where it's not possible to get at with a machine. Nice upload by the way. Thanks.

Hey Baron, good little series so far, really enjoying it so far. Waiting to see if Innsbruck makes it into the final cut. I concur on the amazing views and roads. I moved to Innsbruck 12yrs ago from London. I wouldn't go back for all the tea in China. Brexit can suck it. I'm staying out here. Clean mountain air, clean drinking water better than bottled stuff, summer lakes and motorbiking, winter skiing/snowboarding and motorbiking with thicker gloves on. I encourage you to move to the mountains!!!! You'll love it... *London is a cess pool of thieving, lying, cheating assholes, who's only concern is themselves and robbing you blind.
