Even though the Sprinter is a better built van, overall, I too prefer the Transit. It's significantly less expensive, easier/cheaper to maintain and has WAY more power/torque.

It's pretty cool that STO is providing larger and family friendly features for couples that may have bought a van and then expanded the family. Very cool storage options in the garage too! We will be sticking with our under 20 foot rig as we love the mobility.

Great start. Please, please, and please recommend to STO to consider installing a better AC. This AC (same on the Revel) one of the loudest AC and comes with the most inconsistent thermostat. Also, if this is meant for family, then please make the seating area in the back more relaxing and welcoming. Thank you for the video.

Thank you, Joe. One more comment/recommendation to STO. I read many comments about the dislike of the pop-up. I wonder if it’s even necessary if the purpose is to sleep 4. The designated sleeping space in the garage is already meant to be north/south (I’m not sure what is the purpose of the side flares in this case), then why can’t STO think of a more practical and open design for the back, put the main sleeping area on a raise up/lower platform, then make 2 benches on the bottom that will function as a nice seating space during the day and convert to additional sleeping space at night? Lost storage will be compensated under the benches as they will allow. Thank you.

As a family of 5 ages 3,4,9 use our airstream daily over the escalade and Lexus trucks. School drop off and trips to beach weekly. Top must haves. 2 separate TV areas with PC options, double charging at each seat, lights at each seat, latch systems for baby seats, microwave up top and switchable isotherm fridges, on road Ac for long trips, passenger side hot and cold water for pet and kids wash off at beach. Batwing awning and side with spotlights and mood lights. Rear air suspension is a must and move the spare from under to the back door..flats do occur on rad trips. Thanks 5yrs and counting class B 💪

It would be nice if the bed/table splits into quartets: 1. all up = queen size 2. left side up = single 3. rear left, rear right up = single east/west layout + area in front for working arrangement -- this last would be for setting up a bed that doesn't have to be taken down so I can have a work table+seat for the day and just hop over to sleep

In the raw, this is a good start. As a family of 4, I would provide an option for rear lower seating and more room for bike storage. Currently, at most tray will hold 1-2 bikes. Poptop is nice that it is a hardtop. Any thoughts on a Laguna table up front with the seating? Lastly, option to remove additional 2 seats if not all the family is going.

As a start this is good. My beef with the STO 144 was the open bathroom and the short wheelbase. The enclosed bathroom and the updated fridge is also a good start. A real freezer is always good as the little ones don't serve the purpose. The mattress looked a little cheap but its a prototype. Always looking for max water capacity and maybe they can offer the spare tire carrier water tank to up their capacity? Otherwise Storyteller is definitely thinking and I like their innovation... If only the economy was better and interest rates were lower, more units would move. Finally, I would make a version without the tent for couples who travel without kids. The two seats are fine but if its just the two of us then we don't need them. Maybe make another prototype for the empty nesters who want more room and capacity but don't need the extra passenger stuff..

@nat357-362 ай бұрын
Good but far away from perfect. Maybe better setup in the rear as for more open seating and possibly a platform bed. Also, the AC is cheap and loud. Upgrade is a must. Hopefully, the final product is much more practical and convincing considering that STO is not the cheapest option out there.

@BigSky882 ай бұрын
Nice concept for sure, and this (even as it stands) could tip me towards a Storyteller (the existing 144 Modes are just too cramped to work out of for an extended period of time). Some things I wish they would change before production (in no particular order) ... 1) EW sleeping arrangement ("downstairs") because I assume this would result in more galley counter space. 2) Match the gray water tank size to the fresh water tank size. 3) Make the pop-top optional (I'd have more use for a walk-able roof rack. 4) Either include a UV and sediment filter, or make provisions for them to be easily added later. 5) Looks like the water and batter compartments are sitting away from the side walls. Maybe that's just because it's a prototype, but moving them closer to the walls would add more cargo room. 6) I get the point of the swivel bench, but I'd prefer a fixed bench (against the wall) with storage in the base (and of course a Lagun table mount). Or at least make it so that converting to an aftermarket bench is straight forward. 7) And I agree with everyone else who wishes they used a more efficient and quieter A/C, and "pre-wired" for Starlink

Nice! Being a 144 wb Sprinter owner now (2022 Revel), I have thought a lot about upgrading to a 170 wb. However, on this one there are some things I would change or maybe make suggest a couple layouts be available. While I could see the seating setup working for a family, I wouldn't want those front seats for my travel with my 2 dogs. I'd rather have a comfy lounging area with some seat belts (similar to a regular STO van) where I could put my dogs and have them attached with the seatbelts and for a relaxing area to sit while parked. Also, think a lagoon table up there would be nice. I like that the pop up is hard sided but I'm not a fan of pop ups overall (plus I prefer manual with anything like this because I've had my share of issues with mechanicals) and I didn't hear anything about A/C, just a MaxxAir fan which doesn't work for people with dogs. While I love a table/desk setup in the rear, I don't like the lack of storage. Plus if you do stick some things under the table then where do you put it when you want to use the desk/table? I tend to use my rear garage ALOT. Love the upper storage. Love the big frig. I would not want a dually setup for off road due to big rocks getting stuck between the wheels. That's my 2 cents! Beautiful machine though! Looking forward to what they come up with.

Two beds (N-S down for 3 kids and E-W up for 2 adults) with no pop-top to reduce cost and make it a true 4 season.
@ChristopherMirabile2 ай бұрын
Joe & Cait: few comments for you: (1) great video - thanks for getting it out so fast! (2) Back lounge area feels a bit too bed-oriented for me. To my way of thinking, the main reason to suck it up and eat the cost and worse off-road capabilities, and harder parking of a 170 is to get some real living and hanging out space on the "first floor." My vision would be to get all the sleeping stuff upstairs and have some real comfortable living space downstairs. Because the concept of this van is all about jamming more people in (and that is not really our priority), the front seat area feels like a compromise and the back table area feels like a compromise. If you gave me the keys to one of these, I would probably end up modifying the layout quite a bit (3) Love the hard sided tent (4) love the additional solar and water capacity (5) Don't want a fixed bathroom and cassette toilet - must have OG halo shower option!!!! (6) screen and fan up in tent is very clever and convenient, but hopefully does not add complexity and reliability issues. (7) curious about trims - will there be a Beast-type option and a stealth type option, etc.? (8) Naturally, questions about cost - our Beast was already expensive enough - if the cost of this thing goes way higher, staying cramped in a 144 Beast starts to look pretty good. Really LOVE that STO are doing this, and will watch developments very closely, but at the moment, I cannot see getting one of these because the kitchen an overhead storage are really the only things that are perfect in this prototype as is. My ideal layout would be less schoolbus and more hangout: move the kitchen all the way forward, stick in a halo shower next to it, and devote the rest of the length to (i) more true garage and (ii) a bunch of comfy seating around a table for working the laptop, playing cards, doing puzzles, etc. Fingers crossed!!

Thank you for the great video and first look! While I appreciate the latest Mercedes build, I wanted to express my hope that STO will return to building on the Ford Transit platform soon. I understand STO stated that acquiring raw chassis from Ford has been a challenge, and sometimes the builds or engines weren't what you expected. However, other manufacturers are still building on the Ford Transit, and I’m hopeful that they might reconsider. We are planning to purchase a van in 2025, and I'd love to keep STO on our list, but I’m firmly set against buying a Mercedes-Benz. I look forward to seeing future developments!
