I've watched a handful of these GXV tours and this one is the most professionally put together review and tour of them all. Well done, very thorough especially not just pointing at a feature but actually showing us how it works or operates. You provide a very thorough perspective and scope of the product and how it works. Thankyou for the best edited and put together video.

Impressive rig but given the scratches on the side and top of my Sprinter I'm going to guess this thing won't go where my Sprinter goes. Offroad capability is one thing but no amount of power or grip is going to fit you through tight spaces. I think Sprinter is about the best balance between creature comforts and ability to get to interesting places.

Earthroamer I think is just shy of $600k, Rossmonster makes something as well on GMC/Chevy/Ram/Ford or you can buy a 550/5500 put a flatbed, a truck camper and storage boxes. Very nice rig and you definitely can go almost anywhere in it. The solar panels, the extra fuel capacity and onboard air are wonderful - I would travel Canada and Alaska without any cares!

Glad to see you posting on KZbin! I know a lot of folks are coming here because they know your history of vanlife and they are familiar with the STO line of Mode vans. One thing that would be useful to see is if you could show some places you took the Hilt that would be too challenging for a Sprinter van. I know we can conceptualize it, but it’d be great to actually see the terrain only the Hilt could traverse.

I see this at about $500,000 out the door, and it's a beauty, but a GMC 3500HD with an 8 foot bed and an Alaskan pop up camper at $130,000 out the door and there's no debate. $370,000 will take me to a lot of places and my GMC with AWD has advantages on snotty roads over a 2 speed transfer case.. Also, apparently now it's hard to get work done with long wait times. I can detach my camper to get it fixed and still run around. I can use that $370,000 I saved on a hotel. Nice review like always!

Lots to love, but why a cassette toilet? It would be better if it had a black tank, or maybe a gray / black combined tank. Also wondering about the highway gas mileage. With a diesel engine I thought it would get better than 10 MPG. Still, I’d love to have an RV which was competent on moderately challenging dirt roads.
@Weretherussos7 ай бұрын
10.5 was combined for everything and it will be better on just highway but that’s fantastic for a 20k pound vehicle.
@abappl27 ай бұрын
@@Weretherussos Thanks for that. I have been lusting for a dirt-road RV for decades, and unless I win the lottery I don’t see an earth roamer in my future. I’m most interested in highway MPG, because usually we’ve got to do a fair amount of driving to get to the dirt roads we want to explore. We’ve got a 23 foot travel trailer, pulled by a gasoline Expedition, and our highway MPG is just 10.5, but we’re coming in a lot less than 20K pounds. If you ever measure just highway MPG please post it.

An A/C blower for the rear- passengers in the cab. An air-ionizer all over located on key areas. One camera on the roof located in the rear to monitor the SOLAR CELLS and clearance of ceiling to bridge. How does this expeditionary vehicle perform in very cold places like in Alaska. This thing has been rotating through the different KZbin channels. I think I like your walk-through the most!! Well done. I was in the market for something like this earlier this year after having built my own expedition vehicle and I put all the learnings and mistakes from my own rig into the new one (taking delivery late September. With the Hilt I am surprised about the large gap between the cab of the truck and over the cab area of the Hilt. Center of gravity and height really become an issue when you go offroad. I am guessing, but there is at least 2 inches if not more of wasted height. I get it, interior height for the rest of the Hilt, but who really needs 6' 7"? I went with a different manufacturer as I also wanted to stay with a Ford. Anything that comes from Chrysler/Stelantis - I am not touching with a pole. Been burnt too many times when it comes to reliability. Other than that - well designed and good looking rig.

@@Weretherussos At bedtime (or really any other time that you want the shade mostly closed at night, but still have some air coming in) then pulling the shade up from the bottom provides both privacy and air. If the shade pulls down from the top then you’re much more visible to the outside world (with the inside lights on, visualize having the shade open 3-4” above the bottom of the window vs. having the shade open 3-4” at the top of the window).
