I had the privilege of working around the SR-71 in my early USAF career. I was on Okinawa where we called it the “Habu” named after the local snake. I used to park my work vehicle on the flight line just a few hundred yards away from the aircraft. The process to launch the SR is very complicated and scripted down to the minute. When it’s ready to roll a chase car halls down the runway in advance to look for any FOD or any possible people that could be lurking to get a great picture. It stops at the end and the SR takes the active runway and lights off the afterburners which shoots a 30’ flame out the back. Everything for a mile begins to shake and rattle. It’s an awesome spectacle to behold. One of the really neat things is to follow behind it as it taxis. The heat moving off the engines literally makes the plane invisible. You can see through the waves to the other side the aircraft is seemingly gone.

I used to be a Line Service Technician and I got a little smile when I saw the acronym FOD (Foreign Object Debris) So one of the things I used to do to the new line techs was send them on an errand to get a bucket of Prop Wash and some flight line from the hangar. Most of the time they'd run off and me and the other line techs would have a giggle. It was all fun an games. Anyway, it made me think of my days as a Line Service Technician.

I worked at the Lockheed (before they bought Martin Marietta) facility at Air Force Plant 42 in Palmdale CA on the Senior Span program in the early 80s. The hanger there held our Dragon Lady and an SR-71. It was interesting to compare the differences in take off between the two aircraft. The U-2 just seemed to float up into the sky until it disappeared. The SR-71 on the other hand, was like a bullet from a gun. BANG! It was gone.

The stupid thing about thr pictures is once there was already a bunch of photos all over the place THEN why bother looking for more idiots taking pictures? The moment the cat was out of the bag that part of the secret was OVER...job security for a bunch of people I guess. Reminds me of a trip I took to India. So there is a whole group of us in a tourbus and various folks are snapping pictures of anything in everything cause I mean India is so different you want to bring photos home well apparently there was a sign probably in Hindi I never saw it that said no photos which of course no one read cause not in English. Next thing we know the Indian Military police is taking all our cameras film etc....cuase there was a military base along the highway! Dumbest damn thing I mean there are a grazillion people everywhere there is NO WAY IN HELL they could EVER guard against photos....I'm sure the Pakistanis had all the photos their little hearts could desire YEARS before we ever drove through there....which there literally was nothing to see of the airbase or whatever the highway was remotely near....but they made a huge federal case out of it and ruined our day for sure...same kinda crap everwhere Im sure. I worked for a goverment contractor and I could go on and on and on how STUPID the security rules were there! Unbelievably idiotic

someone needs to build a scale model of the in-air refueling that can actually refuel
@e2rqey4 жыл бұрын
Having someone fly a in flight refiling rc plane and having another rc plane successfully refuel from it would without a doubt be the greatest feat of RC plane piloting ever done.
@kenjackben4 жыл бұрын
@@e2rqey I've given it some thought much like the real refueler you could give it to tandem controls and the person controlling the fueling is a VR headset
@Humbulla934 жыл бұрын
@@kenjackben prop engine would be simpler i think because of the lower speeds, but yes a VR headset is required. maybe adding some magnets to repell the airplanes a bit so that it doesn´t come to a crash. and the fueling system is electromagnetic.

Only thing missing is the leaking oil while it’s on the ground. It’s my understanding that the panels on the actual bird had to be gapped which caused leaking because at speed and altitude the heat caused the metal to expand and seal the gaps naturally

Hankorama If this model with all its looks were to fly around an air show slow like a normal RC plane, I’d probably have to go throw up.

Other rc aircraft could reach around 725 kph, well that fast enough

@@prnothall9302 really? Do we have do the conspiracy theories about Chinese government making the virus? Or don't people take into account that with a population of 1.4 billion, you have population density and therefore many, many potential hosts. Try using Occam's razor approach in this case, why you sabotage your own economy anyways? Plus the world's? Considering China depends on the world for its growth.

I'll get lots of dislikes for this but that's fine. This plane is WAY BEYOND amazing - and so is the piloting. I can't begin to imagine how much this air machine cost or how hard it is to fly. Now then.. my pet peeve has reared it's ugly head again: the LEDs in the exhaust. Flickering LEDs. Come on... on a model of this magnitude, I can't stop feeling that they completely cheapen the experience of watching it fly. It's almost... insulting. I suppose the plane owner wouldn't like this comment, but that's fine. Awesome vid! I just couldn't watch it to completion this time. 5 thumbs up if I could regardless!
@DHC81004 жыл бұрын
N8NK QRP the LEDs seem to be flickering due to the camera. Very common to see this in videos. It’s also common practice to use LEDs to simulate afterburners. They unfortunately do not show up very good in videos. In real life the look much more convincing, and much more realistic as you see a nice glow rather then a flickering LED light ring.
@n8nkqrp5954 жыл бұрын
@@DHC8100 oh my God, thank you for telling me that. It makes sense. I'm really bothered by flickering LEDs of any kind. Needless to say, the world is a maddening one. lol. OK.. fair enough. I'll go back and watch the whole vid. I like to do that on channels that I really like a lot... for the youtuber's stats, etc. What I'd REALLY like to do is watch these SPECTACULAR planes fly.. in person. Take care.. and thank you SO much for the amazing vids

Real afterburners could be scaled down in size instead fake LED simulation afterburners.
