The strange thing in The Netherlands is that we don’t call it platform 1, it is called spoor 1 in Dutch or track 1 in English. I don’t know if they do the same in foreign countries. There are some station which have 3 tracks between platforms (one for passing the station without a stop or for shunting) and the middle track isn’t showed in the train station hall. So there are track 1, 2, 4, 5, 7 and 8 and this station has 3 island platforms.

most countries number both tracks and platforms (gleis auf deutsch), the middle track gets numbered as well for the train control and train drives. (so they can just say pass trough track 3 instead of the middle track).

That's brilliant! I made countless journeys on that route when we lived in the area. I used to count the herons on the canals between Den Haag and Leiden.

@@hilaryoldham3165 Yes! I'd count canals, livestock, and bridges 🌉. Beautiful country ❤

You were in a first class train compartment, while you only had a ticket for second class. Moreover it was a "silent coupe". You're not allowed to talk there.

Thank you very much for the feedback. It was one of my first train rides in the country and I am still learning to navigate the system. I shall remember and correct myself. Much regards.
