He used to be my music teacher many many years ago. Very talented! I just found out that he has passed away in 2017. I am in utter shock and disbelief..

Wah, Shabash Dhrubo. Only Bhairavi can express these sentiments of love and evanescent beauty.

I have loved Afghani Music for decades... Some of our ragas and instruments came from Afghanistan... Bhairvi... is one of them... Rabab and sarode came from the traders of Afghanistan and later a part of our musical tradition... Pt. Dhruva Ghosh has done a great job introducing the audience to the beauty of Afghan music... Music has no boundaries...ONLY LOVE..

kd Kapoor '' Some of our ragas and Instruments came from Afghanistan ..'' I would disagree with you about that. Ragas are Hindu invention , and not Afghanis. Some Instruments [ Rubab and Sarod ] I agree may have come from Afghanistan , but not forgetting they were in Afghanistan long before the invasion of Afghanistan by muslims . The whole of Afghanistan was Buddhist and Hindus before Islamic invasion . There is NOT music on this earth that can be compared to Indian classical music. Period. This is first time I have heard of Pandit Dhruba Ghosh. He is truly blessed by Goddess Saraswati. Sorry to hear he pass away.RIP Great lose to the likes of us listeners .

Yes there are plenty of ragas that came to be from Persian maqams especially during the delhi sultanate but bhairavi isn't one of them. This is an ancient ragini mentioned in old treatise. But yes arabic, persian and other middle eastern music utilise this scale extensively.

His translation is a bit off. The first verse of the poem goes like this: If the Northern Plains are blooming with tulips, what does it matter to me? If its bitterly cold winter has turned to spring, what does it matter to me? My nights are spent weeping and my days pass in tribulation If the Beloved is left there waiting, what does it matter to me?

When I listen to such music a foolish idea comes to my mind.Afghanistan to Kanykumari should be one country where wars should be banned, politicians banned and replaced and united by people of Dhruba Ghosh category

@chittvamasi Eastern poems don't usually have formal titles, they are more usually known by their first line. In this case, that would be "shamali laalazaar baashad ba maa chi". As to the author, I don't know who it is. To me this sounds like a folk poem in the "do bayti" (twin couplets) form.
