Lets be honest... the world was mourning Whitney Houston's death as a singer at least a decade before she finally passed. Her pond-scum husband brought a whirlwind of drugs, booze and abuse into her life that had quite literally devastated her amazing vocal prowess by the early 2000's. Repeated stints in rehabs followed, starting in 2004. By 2007, every last shred of dignity had been stripped away from this once great diva. And her greedy husband made sure all of it was aired in gruesome detail on reality TV. By the time she finally passed in 2012, she was a total mess... not even a shadow of her former self. I was truly saddened when she passed. But I was also oddly relieved... that we didn't have to keep watching her spiraling down the drain.

Whitney did an amazing cover, but I still think Dolly Parton (the actual writer and original performer) does a more emotional job on it. Dolly cant match Whitney's power, but Whitney cant match Dolly's emotion. Especially when this song actually had a real meaning behind it that Whitney just cant grasp.
