@@websitedesigner7158 Having watched another coopering video- so I am in no way an expert!- I believe the heating, along with spraying with water to dampen the wood, softens and makes it pliable for bending into a barrel shape. Unless you're referring to the burning pitch, which I think is done to help waterproof the barrel. In another video the cooper simply burns slightly the inside of the barrel to achieve the same end. Holy cats, this comment was made a year ago! You've probably long since gotten your answer elsewhere. Hopefully it was a better one than mine.
