For all the people saying, why didn't they use a bigger machine, well they properly would have if they had one. He is doing a great job in using a backhoe tractor, but the only thing I would have done is to push the freshly removed dirt and rock straight over the side, instead in front of the tractor, doubling or tripling the work.
@yardfowl31493 жыл бұрын
he is using that dirt to create a new road base by filling in the holes and wash outs, tossing it over the side until that part is done would be a waste
@chrishaan57664 жыл бұрын
The backhoe is the Swiss Army knife of heavy equipment It is capable of doing “ANY” job Not with the speed of job specific machines but it will complete the task I have done this type of work a number of times using a John Deere 410 and have dug across the road I just made in several places to install corrugated pipe for drainage (do that with a blade) I have always kept the bucket full to help with compaction as I go back and forth and also I open the front bucket to use the dozer blade Fill the back bucket with dirt and swing the boom to the side this allows the the machine to lean and the front bucket tilts like a dozer blade Nice work backhoe man !

Many of your operators spend a lot of fuel and time pushing a bucket full of dirt when in fact they need to be filling, backing and dumping in a Y figure. By attacking a bank at a sharp angle instead of parallel, you allow the tractor to engage the dirt and then use the hydraulics to lift and fill the bucket. Done repeatedly it is much more efficient than pushing a gob of dirt ahead and then dumping it. The 4 way clam on the front bucket can be used to shave a bank to bring down loose material. By keeping a wider work area in front of you, there is more maneuvering room which allows for more efficient use of the machine. Once an area is dug out, back dragging with the bucket will smooth it very efficiently. All that being said your operators are working in very dangerous conditions with steep drop offs and must have nerves of steel.

Yes but it appears the operator is useing the same method a dozer would use. In my opinion this operator is doing it correctly because of how narrow the road is.

I was impressed by the operators GRADING & DOZING TECHNIQUE wile moving the material, they always kept the majority of the debris directly ahead of the direction of the doze to help back fill in any imperfections to the intended leveled grade ahead and always keeping the bucket loaded with debris to further back fill the finer imperfections to the grade on the 2nd an 3rd doze passes..

Many years ago I worked at JCB at Rocester (It was the only factory then. It's still the World Headquarters) as an apprentice. At one time I was the 180 Assembly Line Trouble Shooter (The 180 is the degrees the back hoe will swing.) and it was part of my job to know how to test them and be able to fill in should a tester be off sick. So I have some idea how to operate the machines tho not these newer ones. I know that the backhoe controls work in X pattern whereas the ones I used to test were a + pattern. Your operation of the machine was excellent and you kept the front bucket more or less level (Difficult i know). Just one question:- did you back blade when you finished? Have you seen any vidios of the JCB Demonstration Team? If not it's worth finding them to look at. I'm not decrying your skills but those guys are a whole different ball game. Well, they have to be. Also, if you get chance take a look at a video of the Dancing Diggers. Worth a Look!

A catapillar dozer would have been a better idea. And if it's skills they were needing, perhaps the men should have collected up the rocks to built a retaining wall along the upper side of the road, instead of simply hanging around to get their 'five minutes' on camera. That would have been some skill worth seeing.

Of course, we don't know exactly what was said when the operator spoke with the client or the budget. If I did that job, I would bring in a CAT 320 excavator and pull the hillside down to a 2:1 slope so landslides would not happen. I would use a D-6 E to grade the road with a ditch cut at the base of the slope. I think the job is too small for a motorgrader. A culvert should be installed at the point the washout occurred. All that sugar dirt needs compacting, or better yet, pushed off the hillside so getting down to red clay or rock is accomplished. I am not criticizing this guy, he has decent backhoe skills,...I just had access to highway construction tools and he doesn't appear to have similar access. A 6 way blade would have sped this job up a lot.
