Amazon AWS EC2 Free Tier + Paid Instances Account How To Cancel ALL Services

In this video I show how to safely cancel your AWS account including how to find and kill all EC2 instances and EBS volumes in ALL regions which is not obvious or simple with AWS. Note that I advise in the video to search for EBS volumes and this is because EBS volumes that are created after the instance will NOT be deleted with the instance (eg. if you added more storage/secondary volumes to your EC2 VM).
This is especially important to do if you have a free-tier account which expires after a year (aside from any ALWAYS free services). With EC2 you have to be careful as it is very easy to exceed your free-tier limits and it is in theory possible to have an unlimited bill for a single EC2 instance.
It's critical to do this properly as closing your AWS account without terminating all billable services will result in perpetual billing.

That's an interesting point, I wish it was easier and more clear to see exactly what billable services are active. It's easy to miss one or two services. I think when you cancel there should be the default of "auto delete and stop" all services.

So i need to delete them as well, like VPC, subnet etc. also in bills I see some s3,cloud watch and kmns which also I haven’t created and individually i went to those services they are blank. Somehow I have like literally hundreds of resources???? I don't understand why and I am absolutely freaking out. I literally just started an EC2 instance and an RDS instance last year to follow some tutorial. I am in hell. I don't know where any of this came from. Your tutorial was helpful to find these and you're a lifesaver in that respect but oh my god how do I bulk terminate??

I don't 100% remember because it's been almost a year, but they walked me through looking for the actual resources I needed to stop, which was only a few. Some of the hundreds of resources showing up in my search were dependencies I didn't have to worry about that were automatically created

Beware of AWS free offers; even after cancelling all services that generate charges, they make irregular charges, the resolution of disputes takes a long time. Personally I would not put my clients in the hands of AWS. Even when they admit you were charged without any reason, they take a lot of time to refund your money. After 4 months I´m still waiting a refund. Anyway they will still mistakenly charging you, every month. My solution was to block my Debit Card, and sue my bank for not protecting me against this forementioned mistakes. My bank charges me for a insurance every month. I wonder If this is the way Jeff Bezos makes money to travel to the extratosphere.

This was great. Question, if i made the the aws it has four resources amongst several regions lik amplify dynamo etc. i kept messing up my build so i kept making multiple amazon accounts i have about five accounts like this all 0% usage. But if these are all linked to a dead app that will never see light of day would i ever incure any charges if i dont go in to each of my membership free trial accounts to cancel? Do they charge you for existing even if the resources have no percentage of use? Thanks

My free trial account is about to expire, it says i don't have any active EC2 instances running but there are lot of default Security groups, VPC, DHCPOptions, NetworkAcl etc which are under my resources....and i don't recall creating these either. I haven't had this issue, but the point of opening all resources is so you have one place to see everything that you have, so hopefully you can find and delete any billable services. If it keeps happening I would contact AWS Support.

You will definitely want to contact AWS support and let them know the issue. Usually they will point out what is running and sometimes they may credit you especially if it was based on a trial service for a student account.

You will definitely be paying for any linked storage volumes, so I would recommend deleting any unused services that you don't need, to be sure. I've seen a lot of people rack of huge bills by accident for services they didn't realize were still active or related storage volumes (eg EBS).

It means that you are deleting a resource that is related to another existing service. One example is trying to delete an EBS that is being used by a running instance.
