My pantum shut off exactly at 400 pages. I bought it for £40 with starter cartridge. I have practically lived in printers as I am a lawyer and a lot of paper work. Need to get the chip changed and boom you're good to go

I got the 2500W with an additional 211KEV cartridge in India. Never used the starter cartridge, kept it aside in the sealed package for emergency only. Using the 211KEV, and the cartridge is advertised as refillable.. this means Pantum is allowing refills on its full price cartridge. It's the chip on the side that makes the difference. You can take the chip from an old broken cartridge and put it on your starter cartridge and your printer will keep chugging away happily...

Well if one cartridge should have more toner inside it should be possible to measure the weight and compare the cartridges. One should be heavier. But the Printer, toner and ink business is a dirty business. There are printer which refuses to print on if the chip on the cartridge says it‘s empty. No matters whats still inside.

As someone who actually works in the ink manufacture industry, I can tell you that the ink is literally the most expensive part of that printer set. The printer is essentially given “free” as an investment so you buy more of the actual ink. The company I work for will give away huge £2,000,000 industrial printers for free to companies, on the basis that they only use the ink the company provides. It’s an investment as the profits from the ink we then supply easily covers the cost of that printer. The bottom line is that ink is one of the most expensive liquids on earth, and the printer itself costs next to nothing to produce.

Mono laser printer toner cartridges life yield consumption are usually measured based on a 5% test procedure called ISO/IEC 19752. The starter cartridges usually do carry less toner and in many cases the starter cartridge differs in physical structure to the new replacement (usually by plastic tabs or similar). Check the replacement cartridge when it arrives for any noticeable differences. Depends on manufacturing process but at 5% coverage is normally somewhere between 25 ~ 35 pages per gram used so probably the difference between 600 pages and 1200 pages at 5% coverage is small enough not to notice, especially if your actual coverage is less than 5%.

The cutt off is the 400 pages. It goes dead on you precisely on the 400th print. The prints were perfect until they hit the 400 mark and stopped printing in the middle of printing large file.

I use a Brother printer at work which was twice the price as yours to buy, but you can get 5 aftermarket toners for £22 on ebay. I get around 1500ish pages to a toner.

They actually are selling refill tonner and chips for this on amazon and on Ebay as well. Like you said I think to output of how many pages can be used is encoded on the chip. I also heard some one else say that your best way of defeating the system is refilling the tonner half way full ie refill it at 50% don't wait until it runs out and the printer encodes the chip. Anyways I was stupid enough to swap tonner cartridges between 2 printers and it has caused problems of its own. The wifi printing works without any issues. Cellphone printing works as well although it has not been consistent.

Often you can just refill the toner cartridges (usually fill port is on the opposite side of the cogs, just unscrew the panel) and just replace (or sometimes reset) the chip that calculates the toner usage. The toner powder is really cheap, and the replacement chips are usually cheap as well. Luckily I'm using an older Epson (I know right!) printer that doesn't use chips on the carts so it's really simple to top up.

the printer ink scam has been going for years, unless their is a major lawsuit that starts their is nothing that could stop it
@puttputt19926 жыл бұрын
supaginge it’s not a scam you oaf. The cost of the ink in the printer, even just have a cartridge, is simply more valuable than the printer itself. They are sold like that as an investment because the average actual user of the printer, will buy more cartridges when theirs runs out. It’s an investment from ink manufacturers, sell the printer cheap so that the person will then buy their ink after which is where the profits are made.

I think someone did a video on this a while ago. Printer companies usually make their money from the ink. They used to work as a technical support role and was tasked to make customers buy cartridges for $50 that the company paid $0.20 to make (citation needed for the pricing but it was something along the lines of that)
@arabiantxn5 жыл бұрын
I don't think there is nothing wrong it's a bussiness model where they are selling extremely low cost lazer printers ( printer that's cheaper then a ink jet printer ) and are recouping cost on the back in with parts ie ink . I wonder if there is a way to make or scratch something on the chip that makes it not track the # of prints done
@debbys-abqnm45374 жыл бұрын
Very late noting this video (it was recommended today though). Pantum is on my list of makers of printers I might buy if I can convince myself I truly need one. I note that there are several videos about refilling Pantum cartridges, so perhaps those videos would help you not have to buy anything more than a bottle of toner every now and then :)

We managed to get an office size full colour laser printer with at least half full toner for 99p. didnt last very long but you could probably just buy another one as offices are always getting rid of stuff like that for cheap. but then you cant really carry it on divi....

Starter cartridges are real! printer firms make a loss on the machines but make a fortune on the print/toner cartridges, if you where a big user you would definitely notice the difference. check the part numbers on the toners, that should tell you.

Get the toner one b4 u use this new one and weigh it..... It might very well be the cheap on is the same but at work we have had very low pages on the starter kit toners but it's all big brand bs

The carts are filled by weight, the chip tells the printer the page count and if the printer is intelligent enough it will not print when the counter goes over its threshold

A bit more info - Pantum are a China based manufacturer for printers and cartridges with a refreshing approach to business. This is largely due to their ties to remanufactured and compatible cartridge manufacturers Seine Technology and Ninestar
