Please don't bite my head off, but what about one of the AJS 125cc retro scramblers using a ybr engine......I have had the cafe racer version and found it to be a good bike.....

bring some metal epoxy and metal zip ties. The epoxy can help seal leaks in the crankcase/engine body in case of cracks from accidents. Metal zip ties - definitely better in holding the exhaust than the tiny wires you have. I've seen someone bring the smallest vice grips - and its purpose was aside from being an extra pliers - is to serve as an extension to the brake/clutch levers in case they break - neat idea.

Always nice to warch you guys together in a video. As a long time sub these are the only videos I never miss. Why not get a small trailer for your bike? They excist and as you have a car free lifestile they would be intersting for you to try. Happy new year from Iceland 😀

Also worth considering a Honda C90. There's a reason that people use these in countries that don't have decent road networks! I used to deliver pizzas on one about 30 odd years ago and it was an absolute blast to go off road on as a short cut to housing estates across fields! Generally speaking lots of really solid advice as usual.

I always wondered where 125 scramblers went. When I was a teenager in the 80's you couldn't move for them all the big manufacturers had at least a couple in their range.

most Sinnis 125 road bikes use the Zongshen ZS125 (Hoodlum, Terrain, etc.,), same engine as used in the Zongshen RA-1, the Lexmoto Michigan, and others.

A note on the no used helmets- 100% right you can pick up a HJC C10 for less than 100 quid in dealerships and even less if you're willing to risk wrong sizing and shipping damage from online shopping. Me and my partner haven't had an issue with them and they are nice looking and good quality helmets that don't cost a lot at all.

A trail bike is for riding along trails (ie green laning is pretty close to this). A trials bike is for motorcycle trials - remember "Kickstart" on the BBC? That sort of thing. Always used to confuse the hell out of me too. 😂

The confusion over the identity of the Chinese bike brands comes from the same manufacturing trend that makes them unreliable: A lot of Chinese brands literally just assemble bikes out of cheap, generic parts from unaffiliated factories with an emphasis on quantity over quality, and sometimes imitating established manufacturers like Honda. That's why you get both a lottery in terms of reliability and seeing the same part(s) on completely "different" bikes. What I learned when it came to various other products is that most of the different badge names are just shells for the same seemingly-anonymous company, like when I used to have an ebike, I bought it off a "company" called Ceaya, but got one with a logo that said "Burchda," a "rival brand" which at the time were selling the bike I got for £300 more. I sort of made it a rule of thumb that I avoid products with too much Brand X copy-and-paste, especially when it applies to major chunks or core components, as there's no way to be sure of their performance, reliability, or safety because there's no track record.

14:44 - I say Vara-dare-o. Most of the people I've heard pronouncing it with letters missing seem to have misheard people saying 'Virago' at some point, meaning the cruiser range from Yamaha. Great bikes though, getting very desirable among people wanting a 'full size' option with a 125 motor, for commuting or similar if they're maybe not teenager-sized any more.

V-Twin - Old and limiting. Back Cylinder gets hot unless it is a Moto Guzzi. P-2. Everyone is using it. Seems to be the gas saver at the moment. Some brands Parallel Twin limit power. Single. Thumper, vibration. V-4. Seems a bit exotic but nice. Inline 4. Now the best with ECM's and Fuel Injection. Power and POWER!

I had an xsr900 (which i crashed like an idiot a few weeks ago) and in the relatively short time i had it for I've done almost 9,000km with it And I've experienced an inline 4, both 180° and 270° perralel twins, v twins both in the sv650 i used to have and my mom's gladius 650 which is basically the exact same engine And many singles both 4t and 2t of various sizes made for various purposes. And if I'm honest, the yamaha's triple is probably my favourite Plenty of top end, alot of mid range, and a good amount of bottom end. My next bike might be a triumph trident just because of its triple engine.

The ECU was sold by Lextech for the 380, it will not work on the 125cc and no, the 380 engine will not fit in the 125cc frame. (People have asked this before and I checked) As the bike was discontinued after a very short time, I doubt you could find either anyway.

They should just go back to how it was before the EU got involved. It was simple and fairly straightforward and wasn’t a complete mess. A2 for example avoiding automatically upgrade to A after two years. Why do you need to do another test for it? Absolute nonsense. Here’s how it should be: Direct Access to A1 at 17 years old. After two years A1 will auto upgrade to A2. At 19 you can have direct access to A2 and skip A1. After another two years A2 will auto upgrade to Full A. At 21 you can do direct access to full A if you haven’t done A1 or A2. Is that really so bloody hard?

question: would you rather claim for a bike repair on your insurance if it costs less than your excess before labour (ie just claiming for parts cost), or would you go out of pocket and keep your no-claims? I ask because following a hit and run while I was on my bike in December, I had this question to ask myself, so I put in a tentative claim in case the shopping around went south, and I ended up spending £187 (which is less than my excess of £200) on a new fuel tank, new front indicators, new master cylinder, new handlebars, and did all the work myself. The only thing I have to do now is take the yoke twist out of the fork but my dealer says he'll do that if I'm not confident to do that (I'm not, don't like to mess with brake calipers on hydraulic systems). Having done 99% of the work and confirmed everything is as it should be, I then cancelled the claim while confirming that my NCD is unaffected. In answer to the question du jour, I love my upright single (Sinnis Hoodlum 125) because it is such an easy bike to work on.

I have a Triumph triple, but if it were a one engine for all, i would say 90 deg V twin. Enough top end, plenty of torque and narrower than a parallel twin making it easier for green laning/off road applications.

I personally have only ridden singles. Buell Blast, klx300sm, and Drz sm. That being said, I believe parallel twins are going to make a big comeback and would be my choice for an everyday bike. Practical and reliable, something like a ninja 650. Or a Versys 650

This is a review bike so I have not seen it since when this video was made. But most bikes have buttons on the dash, normally you hold one or two of these for a few seconds and then it should flash and you can change the time. As I say total guess going on how most bikes do it.

I thought this was going to be asking if all motorcycles, from 125 starters to dual sports to sport bikes to big ADVS (excluding scooters because of the size restraint pretty much limits them to a single), had to have the same engine layout. 4 cylinders would pretty much be out of the question and probably triples too so it comes down to parallel twin or V twin. In terms of what has actually been put in the most varied bikes then it's probably the V twin, it would be more practical for narrow bikes like dual sports or the really big capacities like the Super Duke.
@Grumpy-Goblin

It has to be parallel twin because it is the only compromise that works for everything and does an acceptable job of all. It can work as a commuter, an off roader, an adventure/travel bike and can even make a decent attempt at being a sports bike. Triples and 4's make amazing road bikes but would be too much of a compromise for off-road use. Just an opinion but I think it makes sense.
