Amazon's The Rings of Power CRINGE overload! More horrific clips and promotions have been released and they more than confirm The Tolkien Fandom has been spot on. Total lore destruction where it exists and the rest is a pure fan fiction. So much for taking a break until the show comes out on the anniversarry of the Professor's passing. One good thing, the memes will be GLORIOUS.

_"I play Princess Disa. She's the first female Dwarf, she's also the first Dwarf of colour."_ Great - another character who's defining characteristics are her skin colour and genitals. Imagine if Viggo Mortensen had been asked to describe Aragorn and all he said was: _"He's male... he's also white."_

If we go by the Leftist standards, Viggo saying that Aragorn was a straight, white male should be considered stunning and brave. Nothing is more marginalized by today's Leftists than a straight, white male.

"Baggins-like yearning for adventure." Baggins were exactly known for not going on adventures or doing anything unexpected. Bilbo's wanderlust came from his mother's side of the family, the Tooks, who were known for going on adventures. As for Frodo, I don't recall if he ever wanted to go on adventures in the books but he was more a victim of circumstance anyway.

When Bilbo said "It's Baggin' time!" Literal chills. When Gandalf yelled " Get to the Eagle!", so iconic. The moment when Sauron took off his helmet and Elrond said " You are one... UGLY... mofo" and then Sauron roared. When Galadrel said, "We need to nuke the mines of Moria, it's the only way to be sure." Or that time she turned her back on Sauron, then turned around and took off her helmet and said, "I am Galadriel Meridius Decimus, Commander of the armies of the North, leader of the Mirkwood legion, wife of a murdered dwarf, birthing person of a murdered Harfoot, and I will have my vengeance in this season, or the next" I literally dropped my popcorn.

You know they don't know anything about Tolkien or the "legendarium" because they said her zest for adventure was "Baggins-like" instead of "Took-like." Bilbo & Frodo's inclination to look beyond their own garden gates came from their Tookish heritage. It's also why Pippin was so inclined to go off with them. I really hate fake fans. This is how my coworkers must feel when i try to feign interest in basketball.

I agree with you. I love Anime, but am neither 2D myself nor Japanese, doesn't stop me from enjoying it one bit. I would think I do the same as any other person when you feel you'd like to be a part of the story - you replace a character with yourself when you reimagine the story. But that's what fan fiction is for. Doesn't mean the story would mean more to me actually as the character. . .

After suffering through this abomination, in hindsight I think that this show hasn’t ruined Lord of the Rings or Tolkien’s legacy, because this show was so bad I don’t consider it part of the franchise at all. In fact this trash made The Hobbit trilogy better for me when I ended up rewatching the prequels after watching Amazon’s awful fan fiction disaster. So Amazon can keep wasting money on seasons 2 through 10. I won’t even bother watching. I don’t recommend anyone else watching it either. All it does is give Amazon more viewer ratings and insults the true fans. We shouldn’t even be talking about it. Rings of Power isn’t LOTR, it isn’t Tolkien, it’s just some garbage on Amazon.

OMG yes. The actress, Morfydd Clark, is beautiful for sure but goodness I can't take her baby face and looks seriously. The funniest part of this is the fact that they made her a warrior girlboss and the actress doesn't look convincing for the part lol. Especially with that scene with her and Elrond, they look like they're high school buddies. She's supposed to be Galadriel, a lady so wise and respected. They could have casted an older actress (just like what they did to both Celembrimbor and Gil-galad) and cast Morfydd as Celebrian instead. That would be more believable to me.

You know, I can remember going to see movies like, The Color Purple, Coming To America, Friday, and Boyz N The Hood and never once did I think, "I just can't enjoy this movie because there's no one that looks like me". I mean, I'm a white male who has seen thousands of movies in my lifetime, and it has never once crossed my mind to question the racial makeup of the cast of any particular movie. If I was going to see a Kung Fu movie with Bruce Lee, I pretty much expected to see a movie with mostly or all Asian actors in it. If I went to see A Piece of the Action or Uptown Saturday Night, I expected to see black actors. You know what, I enjoyed all those movies. It just seems like they're being patronizing when these movie executives race swap or gender swap, as if they are saying certain people just don't have the capacity to like movies unless they have people like them in the film.

That whole concept is illogical. A series is popular and therefore it gets "fans". Those fans are just people who hadn't seen the series until one day they did.. and liked it, for various reasons. To then buy the rights to that series for money and proceed to alienate the fans (people who liked it) and say that you're doing it to get "new fans" defies the entire point of the original purchase. Just make up a series that you want to make, use the money that would have been spent to buy the rights to an existing franchise and use that money to create the new one. Truth is, they know their ideas won't be popular. I think that knowledge stays hidden in their minds, but if they thought their ideas for characters and plots were incredible then they would just write new stuff.

Few things to note regarding Tolkiens actual writings and stance on some stuff; 1. Galadriel wasn’t a warrior. She was influential and powerful magically sure (for an Elf) but her whole personality and story back during this time was her simply wanting to rule. Gil-Gilead, Glorfindel and the like were elven warriors and hunted Sauron down WITH ARMIES until the final battle because no Elf could defeat what’s essentially a fallen angel power wise. Soooo Galadriel looking for Sauron is like trying to find the center of a nuclear bombs target 5 seconds before it blows up. 2. This timeline is fucked up. Is Sauron using his Annatar alias? Because if so then nobody should be “hunting him”. And if he isnt using it anymore then that means all the rings are created and he should have the Nazgûl prior to their complete succumbing into their wraith forms. Maybe Numenorian Nazgûl kings , sorcerers and warriors should be in the show. 3. For clarification: harfoots are 1/3 types of hobbits. The creators don’t know anything and it really shows, but anyways. Magic is also a very unique aspect within Tolkien’s books. Like The Maiar (Sauron, Gandalf, Balrogs, etc) can influence the energy that makes up Middle Earth from Eru Aluvitar into “spells” but Tolkien specifically made sure that Elves can only influence things not outright cast spells. Kinda like the stronger the spirit the more impact on the surrounding world it would have. Humans like Denethor and Faramir were unique due to being able to see into the future albeit very murkily, but that’s ALL a human could do. The Witch King can use magic only because he has a power source… that just so happens to be a maiar directly. But yeah went on a tangent, toodle-do

Personally, I always felt the single most important part in all of Tolkien's work was when Frodo wandered into that cave, fought Sauron, Sting in hand, and chopped his head off, only to find that--beneath Sauron's helmet--was Frodo's own face. This shows that the scariest part of the one ring is that its essence lies--not just around us--but within us.
@susanness9518
@susanness9518 2 жыл бұрын
One of the recurring themes in LOTR is the battle of each person against the evil inherent in each. Some triumph, like Galadrial ("I've passed the test. I will diminish and go into the west, and remain Galadriel," when tempted by Frodo to take the ring). Some fail, like Boromir, though he won redemption in the end ("Few have won such a victory"). Some fail utterly, like Saruman. Tolkien was a devout Catholic and LOTR is deeply and purposefully grounded in Catholic thought, which, in his intelligence and education, he pondered deeply.

She was absolutely amazed and fascinated, and I have never experienced a 9-year-old being so invested in a movie that was so long. She loves LOTR and the Hobbit. Exactly. I see people running around with "elf ears" like those for some cospaly gatherings. Those elves look like Eru was stoned when he created those. Jackson's trilogy did a decent job at not overdoing things and putting some of Tolien's imaginantion on screen the way a Tolkien reader would accept them. The tall, gracefull elves with long hair(because you know if you live for thousands of years and are basically a superbeing who can dedicate that lifespan to excellency in very aspect of life, that is what I would imagine it to look like). This fanfic's elves look neither like they are immortals with all the wisdom and experience nor do they look like they were created by a Universe creating deity as his perfect kids. They look like people who bought some stuff on the internets to go to some cospaly party.

One thing evil does for sure is breaking your heart for no reason. Breaking your heart by trying to destroy a beautiful world, by trying to subvert a powerful message... But do not worry! Tolkien's works and these worlds and these messages are already installed deep within us all, they are in the cultural vein of the world; and they are Good, they will always prevail, no matter what! 😄☺😊😄

Minus a couple of side remarks by urnalisists, there hasn't been the isms thrown around like I expected, yet. I'm expecting it the closer it gets. Everyone knew it was going to be crap when the checklist Anazon sent out for every show got leaked. 30% POC and must include LGBTQ+ representation. That's not going to work for something written 80 years ago by a devout Catholic to give back Britain's lost mythology.
