I’m from Thailand and this kind of mess kit is very easy to find here, German style like you have and another style which is wider but shorter that our armed forces have been used it maybe since cold war era. I believe those mess kit that i talked about are domestically produced here in Thailand and they’re dirt cheap, around 10-15 bucks and they’re really good for what they’re designed to do, it’s one of very few things that is an armed force issued that actually good😂

Might be Chinese, but there isn't that much that would go wrong while manufacturing a mess kit. Aluminuminum mess kit is still a aluminuminum mess kit. A pot to get your soup from the soup cannon or heating up your iron rations and a lid for it. Thing that matters for collectors, is that is it a original surplus mess kit and from what army. Also aluminuminum is bad for you, so there's that, but nobody lives forever.

this mess kit is still in use in germany and austria. many other counties use a similar system. if you wants a real ww2 mess kit, there is in the inside cup a rim to put your folding spork. this system is in use now nearly 150 years. lot of expierence

Is that a Chinese copy or a real German mess kit?

It's a Chinese copy, there are a couple of differences between an actual German kit and this one. The difference in quality of material is also very apparent.
