I upgraded my 10th gen Paperwhite to the new Signature Edition primarily because I wanted that bigger screen and I’m really enjoying it so far. A lot can be said for having a small ereader but personally I just wanted a little bigger screen. Mine is the metallic jade green which also looks really nice. Overall it was worth the jump from the gen 10 to the new gen 12.

After some research, I've found that the smaller screen of the basic is BOTH its strength and weakness, depends on what the user prioritizes on. If easy daily portability is crucial, Basic's 6 inch is great. If bigger font, water resistance, and dark room reading are what you need, go for Paperwhite. I just purchased the Basic because I love the Matcha green color and the plastic backing that will free me of worries that it gets scratched.

Great comparison. It seems like that the Paperwhite is not a more advanced version of the basic. They each have something I would like the other one to have. I prefer the sunken screen for the higher contrast as well as the coloured front of the basic. But I also like the warm light addition and the bigger screen size of the paperwhite. The jade backing is not going to be noticeable with a cover unfortunately. You may also want to edit/proof your videos though as you have some interesting contents in your books shown 😂

Basic kindle 2024 is amazing, I had both latest 7 and 6 inches at home to compare and the Paperwhite went back to Amazon. I never seen a screen so close to real ink than those of the basic new kindle, I think is the same that the one on the Paperwhite but despite of Amazon effort with the extra coat to make it visually transparent, it is noticeable less sharp. Even on your video is easy to see, in reality the experience is super relaxing to the eyes. Hope e-ink continue to improve and e-readers won’t become kind a tablet like Chinese ones: the best thing an e- reader has is non distracting lecture!
@christill29 күн бұрын
I’m starting to think I’d actually like the larger screen. My eyes are generally good, but I do find it more comfortable looking at slightly larger text, so I could just bump that up slightly. Also the text is a lot sharper than my 2019 (I think 10th gen) Kindle basic. I’ve never really read that much, but I’m starting to now. It’d also be nice to have USB-C. It’s not a deal breaker though. Just a bit of a hassle. I’m happy enough with my current Kindle for now, but it’s not going to last forever. We’ll see how the battery copes. The glow light looks like a big improvement too. My only real complaint is a lack of a metal version now they seem to have ditched the Oasis.

The E ink reader market is undergoing a boom. Amazon has stepped into the game with some incremental features and a Colorsoft. But its competitors are doing much better. While Amazon is relying on its ecosystem and large captive audience to leverage sales, its competitors have to do much better to take away market share. In my opinion, it makes little sense for an 11th generation Paperwhite owner to go for the 12th generation one. But a switch to Color is a much more viable option. Thanks for the wonderful video. Which e ink reader would it make sense to buy - the Colorsoft, the Kobo Libra Color, the new Boox or the Ink pad 3? TIA.
