And the most mad scientist thing I have seen... I love this channel. Thank you Sean, that made my day better haha.

A wise man once told me, if you buy a cheaper guitar, or a used guitar, youre typically buying it for the body. After realizing that ive replaced tuners, filed fret ends, conditioned fret boards, changed pick ups, pots, bridges, knobs, and strap locks, it makes perfect sense now.

I love a 7.25 radius. Why didn’t. Gibson or Epiphone even, do a 7.25 radius. I have an Epiphone LesPaul Special 2 14 inch radius with a bolt neck and it was bowed as hell. With P90s . I set it up and gave it to my granddaughter. After spacing the pickups it sounds good, but my ball glove hands can’t scrunch that thin of a neck. My Tele has a 5Os U neck and 7.25 radius. I am thinking about a Humbucker on the Bridge, it’s a 50s Vintera MIM. I wish I could build a 7.25 radius Epiphone LP Special with a 25.5 scale length and a thick neck, a P90 neck H with a coil split. I’ll be there Brother and Sister !

An automatic fret file? You suck! I don't have an automatic fret file? How many of you guys have a SMG-level automatic fret file? I haven't been this jealous... ever. I've never even thought of an automatic fret file. That's genius right there Shawn. I love your channel because as a fellow "let's turn a cheap guitar into a decent guitar" aficionado myself I love getting "budget" guitars from Amazon and making them work. I have several. The basic foundational builds are quite good for the money. Yes, they'll need some TLC and maybe some upgraded components, but honestly, I would rather have one of these than any new "genuine" (legacy) Gibson Les Paul. In fact, if someone gave me a genuine Les Paul I'd probably sell it and buy 200 of these "budget" guitars. Good work! Keep 'em coming.

Sir, as someone who enjoys these endeavors myself, I fully concur! A little bit of time and love (and wits), and you get an instrument that has YOUR fingerprints on it, and will play as nicely as the love you put in to it. I'm done with expensive guitars. Next frontier: cigar boxes. I think there is a world to explore there, both sound wise and in craftsmanship. What a time to be alive!

I actually got the GEARIT semi hollow Tele for Christmas from my wife and I have to say I was very surprised how nice it was. It has a roasted maple neck , stainless steel ball end frets with a soapbar P90 neck pickup and humbucker bridge pickup. The weakest thing are the tuners , i had a set of vintage locking tuners lying around so I swapped them out. Everything is perfect and no flaws with the finish....

I got one of these on Black Friday for $76. I had to check it out. It is better than the one you had to work with. I wanted the white one, but waited too long and they pulled the coupon, so I got the black one instead. It only needed a little fret work. Tuners feel a bit cheap, but hold tune very well, so who cares. They are all consistent. Nice guitar.

I bought this same guitar in black for $85 off amazon, Couldn't pass it up as I don't have a les paul special and liked the idea of the P-90 pickups. Out of the box it looked really great, but the out of the box playing experience was a disaster. It took major tune up steps, after which it was really pretty good. It is definitely NOT a guitar for beginners. I had to work thru the same problems as you, and a bit more. While my neck was pretty flat the truss rod still needed adjusting, but that was not enough. The neck angle was way too high probably double what it should have been. I had to shave the bottom of the neck slot to get it down enough so I could lower the bridge to a reasonable height. The low E bridge post was not pressed all the way in - rubber hammer and lock of wood too care of that. Even with the neck pocket shaved down and the truss rod adjusted the bridge pickup would not adjust high enough to get the 1/4 to 1/8" P-90 spec from the strings. The neck pickup barely made it. I put some springs on the pickup screws but I still need to shim up the foam in both pickups to to get it stable. Intonation went OK, but one of the screws needed work. Once I got it that far I was able to play it, and I was surprised how good it sounded. I ordered some bone nut blanks - I hate plastic. So far the tuners have been use-able - If I get new ones like you did it will double the price of the guitar! I will being doing a fret job when I am up to it, probably when I fit the nut. I call this addition to my collection my "less" paul not-so-special. But hey, if like you or me you are willing and able to do the work, it is quite a bargain! also note - I am going to steal you idea for putting the fret crowning file in the sawzall - pure genius. Thanks for an entertaining video.

That Auto fret crowning is awesome..... And I agree with you... If you got the time and are willing to put in the effort, you can make a $100 guitar feel like a $1000 guitar..... Ain't nothin' wrong with that.... Gives you more money in the end to buy more cheap guitars... Nothing like looking at a wall of guitars and knowing that you didn't break the bank for it.

Interesting. I got ome at the beginning of the year ever so gently used. Amazon had sold out of them before I could buy one, so I had to do a search, but found one. Other than slightly tuning it, I had no problems. For some reason, Gearit stopped making them as soon as they started, and sold out FAST! I don't know why your friend got his guitar in the condition it was in, but I didn't have those problems. I just plugged it in, tuned it up, and started rocking out. I hope Gearit starts making them again. Not a bad little LP copy for the price.

I bought two for about $69 each planning on selling one. Kept both because I liked them so much. One needed some work. The other also needed work but the neck was bowed back like the one in this review. I think these were the first guitars that GearIt sold, and their supplier just didn't have (or assign) guitar people for the final QC.

That dreaded G String that never intonates nor stay in tune for long, so I make sure the nut slots are cut proper on one of those bone nuts that have the slight gap on either side of the nut that butts up to the fretboard, have a straight string pull headstock, premium tuners and roller string trees or graded tuners and I grease the nut slots on all my guitars, not with pencil cause it cakes up and makes the strings catch in the nut slots or I use graphite white or black marine grease or 3 in 1 oil like you. The guitar intonates good and stays in tune longer. If you got pinging strings when you tune them , then your strings gauge or nut slots may not be mated to one another properly, string angles to tuners may be steep or not straight enough through nut slots to tuners, crimped strings in nut slots, or dry nut slots !!! Sean, , I liked this video. It's a testament to the fact that you can make any plank spankable !!! 👍🆒 I have a guitar much like this that needs some work on it that I bought as a collectors item off the HSN. Yep, it's a Keith Urban LP Style White electric that has some fretboard issues. I just have never tried the guitar up nor have I modified the guitar in any way. I've had this guitar for approximately 10 years and I play it and adjust it up and keep it hydrated and such. I only have an issue with maybe the tuners and a high Fret here and there. Always that 1 to 3 high or low frets in key playing zones used most on a guitar. I'm not very Fret Works Proficient, but I do what I know I can and keep studying and learning the luthier crafts and so much that it truly is a craft to make the outcome a work of art that play excellent, smooth and sound great how you want or need to play certain genres & styles. I do not have a decent Luthiery anywhere near me for about up to 300 miles in any direction, so over the years I started studying Luthiery manuals from Stewmac, and a fellow name Frank Ford's website. I found it easier and cheaper to just go buy a pawnshop guitars for parts or Carvin/Kiesel or Stewmac or Logo Necks !!! I do not care about Logos unless it is a collectable instrument. I'll Frankenmodify an instrument however to suit me, my wants and playing needs !!! Play On FretBro . . . 👍🆒🎸🤘🎼☺️🇺🇸🙏 DDH 2-7-2024.

Amazon had these on sale not too long ago for $80. A grabbed a brown burst one and had the same problem. Truss rod was so tight you could hear it snap when torque was released from it. Once I had the neck relief set the frets had to be leveled. After that it has been a great guitar. Others in the FB budget guitar group I am in also bought them. Some was perfect out the box and others was like mine and unplayable until a bunch of work been done to them. Another common complaint on them was pickup height. It is hit or miss with these LP's but if you get a good one, its a fine playing guitar that feels great in the hands.

The tuners come bone dry, and a drop of lube makes them work and feel as good as any other cheap tuners. If you check the two pickups, you'll find that they are identical: both are 50mm and have identical resistance. I put in a $35 pair of of replacement P90s in mine and think they improved a lot. Also, one of the pickups out of the four I had was bad or wired incorrectly so that there was no way to balance them out on volume. Replacement pickups gave no problems. Leveling and leaning the frets, filing the nut and adjusting the truss rod yielded two VERY nice guitars. I did one with ceramic P90s and the other with alnico P90s. Interesting difference, both nice. Mine are black and sunburst.

I love your channel bud , , these el cheapo's can be great learning tools for setups , all sorts of mods, I wish I could pass my two guitars over to you , one is Vintage v100 JHS 2010 Les Paul type set neck Mahogany body Rosewood fretboard , heavy as you know what my other I call the red beast the guitar fender would of loved , American Alder Maple Neck with a thick slab of Rosewood she's a big girl at a 11 pounds , I'm considering upgrades , with the V100 it has the Asian special small pots but unlike this one it has room for larger pots , that's the first upgrade then latter nice PAF type of buckers , the V6P with stock Stacked Ceramic P90's I like a more smoother blues sound, it has has no capacitors and you can roll off the tone , great video ,

I have the same model. It's a great guitar and sounds great stock. Although I find I never have the volume knobs on the guitar past 7 or so. Full bore it's just not near as articulate as other p90 guitars. But man it can sing in the right hands! I have $600 and $800 guitars that Plat worse and sound worse than my $200 Harley Benton. I bought a Tele from them too and it honestly was terrible and I sold it after a month. But their Gold Top P90 model is money.

I think most guitars made in China including Epiphone use the same parts. They start out the same with no head stock and body. Then if it is rejected they shape the head stock and body

Cheap and cheeful.... I love a good economy guitar. Thanks for the video (no he was not filming, for you young guys that call videoing filming. You need film to film. This is video.) The set neck guitars feel like higher quality (but remember even crummy acoustic guitars have set necks.) The fact that he could take that neck off the guitar makes things easier for him, and probably, arguably allow for more acduracty in his fret work. Screwed on necks may look cheap, but they sure do allow for much more latitude for a luthier, when working on them (it appears.) This is not to mention the shims that they can use to change the neck angle. Set necks are beautiful, and they appeal to the cork sniffer in us, but in practicle terms, screwed on necks allow for greater accuracy, in working with action. (No those are not bolts holding on the ncek. They are wood screws.)
