I bought a Mexican double yellow parrot, forty years ago. She was so small, she couldn't hold on to rungs in her large cage. I carried her across the border from Tijuana in the pocket of my Navy Pea Coat. Don't get a parrot unless you're prepared to spend a lifetime of loving that parrot! That said, we never match the love that parrots give.

My grandma had a Blue Crowned Conure, and a Double Yellow Naped Amazon. She came down with terminal cancer. Luckily, she had a contingency plan. My mom took the Conure, and the breeder she'd bought the Amazon from gladly took it back,as well.

@@proud2bpagan --- They need very special diet to stay healthy. I wasn’t really aware of that at time, luckily we lived in a Avocado 🥑 grove, she loved them. But if they’re going to eat lots of avocados they need to fly a lot, or suffer untented consequences.

@@garydflatt4904 Sorry, i just realized I phrased my comment incorrectly, and it may have led to a misunderstanding. I meant to type that my grandma developed cancer, and had to rehome her beloved birds, and those were the ppl who took them in. Again, my apologies. Susie, the Double Yellow Naped Amazon, *lived* to make ppl laugh. My grandma taught her to say both "Roll Tide" and "War Eagle!", the two chants for our state's big rivals, Alabama and Auburn, respectively. I guess she decided to split the difference, bc Susie blurted out "Roll Eagle!"
