As a owner of the blue version of this bag for over 3 years now, this bag has held up better than I would have ever dreamed it would. The front has some battle scars but the rest of the pack has held up well for a $50 pack. I have not broken any of the zipper pulls and all the zippers work and still glide smoothly. Wearing this as a backpack is easily the best and most comfortable. Briefcase mode is best used when boarding and deboarding the plane any longer than that and the handles become uncomfortable. I don't use it in messenger bag mode as I pack way to heavy for that to be viable. For $50 I would consider this a good deal considering how long it has lasted me.

I actually have this bag in the blue, which makes it easy to see when you are surrounded by black bags. I bought it at the beginning of 2017 when it was first introduced at $35. I'm not sure if I would spend$50 on it now, it is cheap material used. But, it has held up ok. I've used it for domestic travel 2-3 times a year where it was thrown in the trunk of a car or over head on an airplane. In 2017 I even took it to Spain. It now has quite a few scrapes and bruises on the front panel but still holding up great. I've gotten my money's worth out of it. But I have to say I really can't stand the top and side grab handles. No padding like holding a sharp piece of hard plastic that digs into your hand while carrying my bag down the draw bridge and onto the plane. Otherwise it was comfortable to carry on my back while walking around the airport. Hope this helps people decide on this pack.

Thanks, this was my 1st travel backpack and I was definitely on a budget at the time. A year later I replaced it with the ebags tls mother lode and I love this one better although double the price and it has 2 quick grab pockets. The amazonbasics still get used like I'm using it for a work trip coming up where I'm just driving to another city.

All the issues you pointed out are very minor and can be fixed with a trip to the dollar store. Also, one important thing to point out: "You don't have to be on a budget to buy this bag." It has all the functions of a Farpoint 40 bag. At the end of the day I'll have more money in my pocket to buy a round of drinks at the bar. :) Cheers!

I'd be curious to know what you think of the ebags motherloade packs after reviewing this. This Amazon basics bag is a cheap knockoff of those. I have one of the ebags and it seems to be better quality than this and not much more costly if you can find it on sale.

@PackHacker5 жыл бұрын
Hey Gagandeep - deciding on how much to pack really depends on your travel style. Members of our team have traveled for over a year with a 40L pack or less, so it's definitely possible, but it depends on what you want to pack and how you prefer to travel. We recommend checking out our Digital Nomad Packing List packhacker.com/packing-list/digital-nomad/ where we show you how many items we can fit into the Aer Travel Pack 2, a 33L pack, for continuous travel. Hope this helps! 😊👍 - Rebecca

My trusty REI ruckpack 40. This was a very tepidly reviewed pack, for good reason. Is there a situation that you could actually recommend this pack?
@PackHacker5 жыл бұрын
Hey Wade, thanks for the comment! Glad you're digging the REI Ruckpack 40, it's a solid pack. The AmazonBasics Carry-On Travel Backpack is only something we'd recommend if you're really on a budget, and if you only need it for one or two trips. It will serve a purpose, but pushing the budget a little higher and opting for something like the REI Ruckpack 40 or Farpoint 40 is always a much safer bet. - Nathan

Thanks for the review of the Amazon Basics Carry-On Backpack. Unfortunately I have purchased and since returned the backpack for the same reasons mentioned in the video: bulky and poor quality workmanship, loose threads and weak seams. It also feels very heavy empty. But for $50 bucks what do you expect.? I am, however, a budget traveler and the idea of a "lifetime" backpack isn't high on my list of characteristics that I look for in a travel backpack. I am looking for something lightweight ( less than 3 pounds empty), 35 L and less than $125. A unicorn? Maybe? Maybe not? Rick Steve makes two backpacks. One is $80 and the other is $100. Do you have plans to review these bags? I haven't seen these bags reviewed on any other travel gear channel. Thanks for your very informative videos.

Hey Felissa, We're currently testing out the AmazonBasics "Slim" Carry On Travel Backpack - packha.kr/prwa - and it seems to have fixed a fair few issues we experienced with this pack (ykk zippers, better buckles, less bulky etc). We're still a little way off a full detailed review of that one, but it's certainly worth checking out for your needs. We don't have any Rick Steves backpacks in the pipeline, but we'll look into it.
