AMAZONIA, THE CLIMATE REGULATOR I AERIAL VIEWS I 2024
The Amazon is a large area of tropical rainforests that spans nine rapidly developing countries: Brazil, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname and French Guyane.
The Amazon Rainforest is incredibly rich in biodiversity, hosting a wide range of animals, including jaguars, sloths, pink river dolphins, over 1,300 bird species, numerous reptiles, amphibians, and millions of insects. Its plant life is equally diverse, with many tree species like Brazil nuts and rubber trees, flowering plants like orchids, and medicinal plants used by indigenous peoples. The Amazon plays a crucial role in regulating the global climate and supporting biodiversity.
In the 1970's, a misinterpretation of an interview with Harald Sioli led to the incorrect metaphor of the Amazon as the "lungs of the world," even though the oceans produce the majority of oxygen through phytoplankton. In reality, the Amazon rainforest is in balance regarding oxygen production and no longer mitigates climate change due to deforestation and global warming. Once a carbon sink, the Amazon could soon become a carbon source, further contributing to climate change. However, it remains a "climate regulator" for the Earth.
The Amazon plays a crucial ecological role as a carbon sink, helping to regulate the global climate. It is home to about 10% of known species, making it a key area for conservation. However, deforestation and climate change threaten to turn the Amazon into a carbon source, worsening global warming. Historically, the forest has been economically exploited, disrupting its ecological balance. Today, conservation efforts are underway to protect the Amazon, which is vital for the planet's future.
In this video, you will see aerial views from many points of interest located in many countries of Amazonia.
