This may not be a popular stance to take, but I really believe Christian rappers should denounce the culture of hip hop altogether. Hip hop has always been one of the most anti-Christ movements of our time. They glorify, promote if not celebrate every thing that our Heavenly Father condemns. I’m not speaking against rapping which is merely a means to express lyrical content but rather the culture known as hip hop. I believe one of my biggest mistakes was embracing this culture that really has no redeemable origins.

Re: 'undiscipled consumers', I credit Ambassador with coming the closest, among anyone in CHH that I've heard, to implicating the role of "we the audience" on this topic. Much talk about what Lecrae is doing and it's impact on 'the church' has been imprecise at best. 'The church' often just means 'Christian rap fans' (how many poor ppl care about Gravity? septuagenarians? most importantly, the authorities in God's church: elders and deacons). The formlessness of Evangelicalism, which is one of our strengths, proves to be its own undoing at times like this. A Roman Catholic rapper would talk to his bishop, or the bishop(s) to him. Lacking anything similar, every Tom, Dick & Harry seems so concerned about Lecrae's path but all are not equally capable of wisely contributing to this topic. So we get a mass questioning that always helps the most unbalanced view bubble up, b/c that's the nature of controversy and outrage. Or we latch onto what a popular pastor says: a metric that puts forth John Pipers as easily as it does Mark Driscolls. At the same time, shai linne's position is sound. Calling the church to be devoted to the glory of God will never be a bad message. Even in the midst of revival, we'd probably just be convicted deeper still. This thing where Lecrae tries to influence culture *simply by existing in their space and being faithful to our God, his craft and his realities* is being mistaken for low-key apostasy by people who expect him to be a Jesus mascot. Lecrae is accountable to our God, his *local* church and the ecosystem of r/ships around him (which incls his CHH brethren). Average joe fans like me (and probably you!) are onlookers. And we oughta do our part to--at the least--not turn up the rhetorical temperature. On this point, we all have a lot of maturing to do (and you'll note that I didn't say, 'the church' does lol).

Powerful, yet I think CHH works soooo hard to be an outcast. Like even when people want the message, even when people can appreciate the message, CHH still finds a way to go "oh you really hate us, just admit it!" We're increasingly working hard to be victims even when we're not to the point that any crossover success is side-eyed and anyone not flipping tables and condemning audiences is reflexively challenged as not being Christian enough. And part of the pushback against certain successful CHH/Christian artists is the belief that we're supposed to be at odds with the word even we're not. Lecrae's popularity means he's gotta be doing it wrong, because hey, they're supposed to hate us, right? I saw this with Lecrae. I saw it with Truth during his early Jay-Z soundalike run. I saw this with Kirk's crossover success and blowback. I've seen it for a couple decades now... We're looking for enemies constantly. We're looking for wolves and snares. We're looking for pitfalls and snakes. We're looking for everything except opportunities to grow in The Lord. We're becoming a country club and building walls to keep people out. No music is worth all of this mess.

WORSHIP JESUS spend a few hours sharing the Gospel in a public space and watching drunk people blaspheme God and slander His church while proudly saying "Jesus is my Lord and Savior" and you might agree. What I mean is that the phrase is a cliche in that it is commonly uttered by people who have no grasp of its meaning, but who suppose saying it is equivalent to actual saving faith. It should be truly said by us as Christians, but often is said hypocritically in the unbelieving world.

On account of Ambassador saying it, but on Divine prophesy that people WOULD say it. "Not all who say, LORD, LORD, shall enter the kingdom of heaven." The King is implying by THAT statement that people WOULD say He is Lord but that their WORDS would not be the definitive proof of their faith, rather THEIR ACTIONS - "...he who does the will of My Father."
