This is one well done amateur video. No screaming, swearing or hooting for he storm. They shot it without shaking the picture about, and I heard the tornado's sound very well. Yes, they were concerned, but they kept calm and stated only facts. Need more like this.

This tornado was as it's peak in Bridge Creek. It weakened when it headed into Moore. Definitely one of the strongest ever.

I feel sorry I have lived in bridge creek for 13 years and I have went to bridge creek school for 9 years so I didn't get to experience the big 1999 tornado but in 2015 my house was flattened by one so we had to rebuild

F6 category was almost made because of the Xenia,Ohio tornado of 1974. Ted Fugita after whom the scale is named almost rated it an F6 because the destruction was so bad and we are talking about foundations sucked out of the ground.

Wow...watching that thing just get closer, and closer, and bigger and bigger, must have been something else.

Lived through it and thought I'd seen all the videos from that terrible day. Thanks for posting...great vid.
@TheMightykaz11 жыл бұрын
That was an unsubstantiated rumor. Xenia was not the most powerful tornado that day. It never sucked up foundations. Most the damage was around f3 category. The Brandenburg, Kentucky tornado was probably the strongest of the 1974 outbreak and then followed by Guin. Look up some photos of the Brandenburg, Kentucky tornado. It was truly a beast! The Bridge Creek tornado was considerably stronger than the Xenia tornado. It weakened when it hit the suburbs of Moore. Thank goodness it did.

News Channel 4! I lived in Ada when this happened and went to the OKC metro 2 days after it hit. The scope of damage was indescribable, and videos will never do it justice. Parts of Del City was nothing but streets, sidewalks, foundations and dirt. There wasnt even much debris because it was carried off by the tornado. It was totally scrubbed clean. Even the grass was gone.

I was like, I'm not watching a 10 minute video, once I started watching, I couldn't stop, lol. Lived in Burkburnett, TX for 4 years, traveled up that way to OK City plenty of times. That is one bad mamajama tornado. Thanks for a great video.

I think officially 318 mph!

At about 1:07, you see that first power flash near the left side of the tornado's base, and if you watch closely, there are more flashes. I can't tell for sure - anyone with better eyesight? - but it looks like all the flashes that follow up to 1:20 were part of a chain reaction. It looks like it's a series of flashes that follows down a single line from left to right.

That was one impressive tornado. Don't get me wrong - it's absolutely terrible that 36 people died - but that was a spectacular tornado. I just realized that today is May 3. Weird coincidence.

I've never seen this video before! Incredible clear slot on the updraft. All your other sequences I've seen abbreviated versions of elsewhere (notably Grazulis' TVC-series), but it's immensely enjoyable to watch them in their entirety, and with the original sound. Is your name Roy Britt by any chance? ;-) Thanks anyway for an interesting channel.

I think the news said that was the most powerful tornado ever recorded. I remember that day.

This tornado cycled some, but never went below EF-3, if I recall. Most damage was EF-4 to EF-5 damage. I went and surveyed the damage when the authorities would let us in and the damage was mind boggling! Some homes were cleaned off of their slabs and in some cases, the tornado took the slab too! I found a human tooth embedded in a tree just West of Tinker Air Force Base in Del City. The tree was debarked and twisted like a washrag......well the 1st three feet were. The rest of the tree was gone. Only reason I saw it was the sun reflecting off of the filling.

You told me this story "when I thought" that the May 20,2013 was the most powerful. I didn't realize that the wind speed within' this tornado was 317-318mph and the highest windspeed ever recorded on earth. I later saw the news footage and there was a part when they showed debris flying around and I couldn't believe my eyes at how fast the debris was moving and smashing electrical transformers --- incredible!. You were right about this tornado, this thing had balls of steel, and was the most viscous on earth to this day. If this went through the most densely populated areas of Moore, like May 20,2013, there would have been waay more fatalities. Both were awesome though!!
@kdolo10010 жыл бұрын
flashy5150 It's the most vicious recorded by instrumentation. There have been tornadoes in the past, and 1 or 2 that occurred in 2013 that could possibly out do this thing. This is my favorite tornado though.
@flashy515010 жыл бұрын
My favorite too!! The news footage that captured the debris flying was incredible. I've never seen debris fly around that fast and shredding everything in it's path --- Major power! May 20,2013 was an awesome tornado too and the footage was perfect and really made me feel like I was actually there. I love the footage of Tuscaloosa in 2011 and I wish there was more footage of Joplin, of the actual tornado. To me, I've never seen a tornado change from circulation to a massive wedge faster than Joplin 2011. It went from one side of the road --- rotation of clouds, to the other side of road ------ bang!! - 1/2 mile wide and the speed that it traveled was amazing. I don't know if you feel the same way but I have this "itchy" feeling that there is going to be a couple more F5's strike the OKC area and Missouri area. It's just a funny feeling. In 2010 -11 and 2012-13, where I am in Southern Ontario Canada, we had a very mild start to the winter and this year it's the same. As we know, those following summers had the F4's and F5's hit OKC and Joplin areas. Plus, it's 2015, which is an odd year just like 2011 and 2013. This year OKC and Missouri never had anything. I think it's the calm before the storm. Cheers

The 318mph measurement was taken during this vid and especially near the end where it was encountering the lights of Bridge Creek. This was where the tornado was at it's most widest and intense. However there is a video that i bought from channel 4 that showed the DOW traveling behind this thing near Newcastle OK. The tornado had slimmed down, but it had extreme rotation. I wished the DOW was able to measure it then because it proves that the record measurement was taken when the tornado was not at it's strongest rotation. There was F-5 damage in Moore, but nearby doppler radar measured winds of only 190mph. Homes were swept away under F-3 winds. The vid that showed it up close with debris flying was where it was crossing I-35. There were people under the bridge there! All were blown out, a woman who almost made it to the underpass was mutilated and killed. Some of the survivors lost finger, noses, ears etc. There is another vid where somebody left a camera in the living room as this thing pass a several blocks away. The roar......
