I mean... ALR has a very Pollyanna view of this and it's the one you're referring to. People aren't chomping at the bit to take in stray cats. Anywhere. Dogs are different. A stray dog represents a number of things: A missing pet who is crying for its family, and can do so socially, since dogs are social in the same way humans are, or a stray dog is seen as a potential threat. Usually both at once. A stray dog is always given shelter whenever possible. Nobody takes in stray cats. I know, because when I was 19, I did for a bit. And nobody wants stray cats. It's a goddamned sin. Rarity has a better chance because she's a semi-celebrity cat heh. If someone in WI sees the missing cat poster, finds Rarity, and makes the connection between the two may very well want to keep her, and for a number of reasons. But, at the end of the day, Rarity isn't a unique looking cat. She's not some hairless 3k breed or a chatty siamese. She's just like my cats, she's a stray housecat. And while we should all do our best to protect this demographic of displaced animals, a lot of people don't. Nobody has adopted her for any reason other than pure love of the cats, or pure "holy shit this is Rarity!" I suspect that Rarity is outside exploring. Unless Rarity was spayed before ALR adopted her, I won't assume she is spayed now. She's probably out trying to get laid. That being said, people may not take in strays, but the number of people who will take them to a shelter is slightly larger. Slightly. I hope ALR and Tsloms are in regular contact with local shelters and vets to ensure she wasn't handed over to any of them. I believe she's still alive, yes. Just because I know cats. I know domestic cats, I know stray cats. Rarity is likely ok so far. But the clock is ticking.

To be fair I live in Ontario, near the Canadian/US border, not far off from Wisconsin and we haven’t had a winter here at all this year. I’d hardly even call it a fall. Like I commented already on Snowflake's video... Cats don't just get lost any time they get out the door! I've had cats at home, literally since I've been born, and our cats have both been inside only and both inside/outside cats. Never have we had a cat just leave, even after moving to a new place. If you've been at a new location for a few weeks, most cats who get out will know how to get home on their own. Cats who leave, or repeatedly "get lost", are usually uncomfortable in their home - either because too crowded, not cared for properly (dirty, hungry, etc), too chaotic... So. In my opinion, this is a pattern that tells on how she cares for her pets, and also the fact that she's NOT actively looking for her cat. This situation is ridiculous, and she's pathetic. She needs to get off the internet, seriously.

Hard agree. Especially indoor-only cats - I have an absolute lunatic, but he's extremely wary of outside or new people. It takes a lot longer than twenty minutes for them to assess new surroundings. Rarity wanted out. A long and stressful trip, a new human, new place, gigantic new dog, nothing familiar...Big Al showed vid of the cats both shuffled in a corner, wittering on about how happy they were. No they weren't. And if her gigantic useless self can do nothing else, at least stand and call for her - what use is Emily going out looking/calling for her? My cat is strictly a inside and I will be a complete asshole about how the door is open. She gets curious and she has been out before, on a leash, but it's over stimulating for her. I hate the animals may be out and lost in a strange city, and as bad as that is, that means there is a chance they will be taken in by someone. I HOPE that's what happened and not that they were unalived by the Shepherds.

My cats are little sprinters, so I open and then slam the doors closed as fast as possible. I don't even wait for swinging doors to swing on their own because that's too much of an opportunity. You need to to be aware of your surroundings and care for your innocent pets properly. Just heartbreaking. Poor Rarity.

I understand not having an AirTag on the cats as they are indoor cats, but Amber specifically said Rarity has gone out before. You can’t put the cat back in the bag once you give them a taste of outside. She should have at least gotten Rarity microchipped after that.

Amber has hardly done a thing to actually find rarity, I assume it is partly due to her bodily constraints. I feel bad for her but it is 100% her fault. She opened the door for the dogs and then goes and sits back down and waits for them to be done. She said she left it open for at least 20 minutes. You can’t do that stuff when you have cats. Every cat owner knows that. Not to mention, Twinkie is a small dog and should be monitored in the yard. Especially in an area with heavy wildlife.
