Amara used Ambessa's own hubris against her and made her believe that LeBlanc folded all her cards, when the purpose of this meeting was not to kill Ambessa, it was to put fear and pressure on her, to find the best angle to manpulate and have her play by the Black Rose rules. Ambessa foolishly revealed the answer, family. LeBlanc knew to target Mel as soon as she said the line "You have no idea what family means to me", after that, she didn't care if Amara died -- in fact, it is better if Amara dies so that Ambessa has to explain away her death. LeBlanc had the information she needed, and kidnapped Mel in the exact same episode.

My guess is that it's a rune weapon that Leblanc has personally enchanted like when she enchanted Riven's blade, it somehow went into Kino's hands, and subsequently to Ambessa.

Amara controlled by Black Rose chained Ambessa and her guard (E) and then teleported behind (W). No matter it's LeBlanc herself using a clone/controlling Amara or someone else from Black Rose having access to some similar magic power love those small details in animations and Easter eggs paying tribute to the game characters. Arcane make it so seamless and without forcing it. Truly masters of their craft.

Oh boy, this explanation will be long, I'll try my best. The Black Rose is a powerful group ruled my the mage known as LeBlanc, also named as The Pale Lady. We don't know a lot about LeBlanc, but we know that she is a poweful witch with hundreds of years and a master manipulator. And her most characteristic cuality; she can make clones. Clones either of herself or other people, so powerful that even clones can get sentience and LeBlanc is behind every clone, in her own words "I am everywhere, I am everyone". About Amara, it's not clear if she was a member or a clone, but my theory is that she was a clone, because we haven't seen a lot of magic from others Black Rose members, meaning that probably Amara was a clone of LeBlanc (meaning that the real Amara was probably killed by her). Also, the clone's death means nothing for LeBlanc, in fact it helped her, cuz now she has information to defeat Ambessa; "You have no idea what family means to me", which lead to LeBlanc kidnapping Mel at the end of the episode. (About Elora idk if she was a clone or was controlled by LeBlanc, but we have never seen "mind control magic" from LeBlanc so imo she was a clone) I hope this helped with your doubts, sorry for the long explanation

Just to add, Legends of Runeterra (Riot's TCG game) expands LeBlanc's lore wonderfully as well. Her level 1 card shows her sitting in front of some sort of council. The level 2 card shows that the people in the council are all her clones. When there are other LeBlancs on the board (like an enemy LeBlanc for example), one would call the other an impostor and the other a cheap illusion. Sometimes, the other LeBlanc would say that the other is rogue clone, but then she'd respond with "Oh you think I'm a clone, how precious." They all seem to have their own sentience, you're right, and they all seem to work under a shared objective.

If anyone wants to know, Amara's voice actress is NOT Leblanc's! I was impressed to find this out because of how similar the voices are, yet are performed by two different people. Amara is voiced by Salli Saffioti, who also voiced Clawdeen Wolf and Cleo de Nile in Monster High! Meanwhile, Leblanc is voiced by Carrie Keranen, famous for playing Casca in Berserk and Rena Rouge in Miraculous!

Random mishap I noticed is that Ambessa unsheathes her blade on her left hand (1:31 to 1:32) but then immediately slams Amara against the wall with that same hand (blade nowhere to be seen anymore), and instead stabs Amara using her right hand at 1:33. It takes going through frame by frame; there's a blue of silver on her right hand as Ambessa is spinning so that could be a 2nd blade, but it doesn't explain how the one on her left hand just disappeared.

The guard already gave us that answer. Runic blades were only given to the most elite soldiers. If she and her other soldiers were lesser known nobles in Noxus, she didn't get those blades that easily.

Just throwing out a theory, but supposing the story the fake brother spoke about in act 2 is true, ambessa's lost child lines up quite closely with rell's backstory Both are children with extraordinary abilities who had their mother give them to the black rose. Rell's hair style and skin color match with ambessa, the timing matches, and even with mel's odd power seems very similar to rell's, even down to the same colors. Both are also being sought after by the black rose. Perhaps they're the same?

I don't think Ambessa is in Piltover solely to get Hextech weapons, because I don't think Leblanc would be worried about it more than any other natural Mage Ambessa could seek out. I think there's something in Zaun that Ambessa discovered and wants.

Well it would make sense. Her ancestors are from Old Shurima; Zaun was a part of the Old Shuriman empire; she might've discovered something there, like an ancient weapon or tech. I think Hextech is not the ultimate goal.

Is Ambessa the one actually playing the Black Rose? At the end of act 1 Ambessa begins her plot to put Caitlyn in power, but she would know that Mel would be her main opposition at such a meeting. As a result she baits the Black Rose to kidnap her so that she wont be there at the meeting. She doesnt seem shocked that Mel is absent from this meeting despite knowing the Black Rose will punish her for killing Amara.
