Yes, I know just what you mean! There is sometimes a kind of reunitive longing, a feeling of familiarity and recognition and arriving-at-home, for times and places that I know I don't actually remember. It's so hard to describe, but the idea of unlocking some deep-rooted, collective human memory captures it well.

@@ambienceofyesteryear6871 It comes from the all-knowing soul. I describe it as a forest that burns down in the heat of summer but from the ashes the trees that once stood must regrow and be born again. In essence, they are not the same trees, but they remember. This is the process of rebirth and reincarnation. I certainly yearn for this time period and it is almost as familiar to me as the hands I witness typing this message. It brings about a certain homesickness. What I wouldn't give to return to this now distant memory across time....... Only an old soul knows the difference between modern times and those days long ago. It is quite sad to see the difference and how we have forgotten the noble virtues we once adopted so long ago. Bending the knee is now frowned upon as in football stadiums, yet it was once considered a sign of loyalty, honor and respect. Please take me back to those days!

This is a perfect description of how I feel. When I listen to this I imagine the cook and scullery maids bustling about, adjusting caps and skirts and aprons; scuttling around one another, hauling wood, retrieving heavy metal utensils and pots and kettles...perhaps preparing the morning's game caught during a hunt...the smell of firewood and smoke and bodies...the sound of orders being shouted, mixed with laughter...oh my, I'm really there in that centuries-old kitchen...

Being alone in the house right now, with my coffee and spring flowers, listening to this makes me feel like I’m not in the middle of a urban area, but somewhere all to myself, away from every modern noise and listening to old familiar sounds of me being in the country, a medieval maiden, without the knowledge of technology and nuclear wars. Just at peace with everything. Thank you so much

Really nice ambience! One thing you might enjoy knowing, is that medieval castles were not dark, nor did they have the bare stone walls that we're used to seeing now. After all, we see them after centuries of wear! In medieval times, walls were rendered, and then white-washed, to reflect as much light as possible, since the defensiveness of the structure meant the windows were small. So the walls were a bright white, and would be re-washed frequently, particularly in the kitchen, since it had the added benefit of creating a sterile, clean surface that would prevent mould and bugs from gaining any kind of foothold in the kitchen.
@ambienceofyesteryear68714 жыл бұрын
How kind of you to share this! I base all of my videos on existing historical structures, and this particular castle happens to be "preserved" (maintained, for the most part, as it currently exists) rather than fully "restored" (to a medieval appearance), so indeed it does not look as it would have hundreds of years ago. I also admit to taking some further creative liberties: a medieval cooking fire, as you surely know, would also not have looked like this. I provide only a rough representation of history, but I'm glad you enjoyed it nonetheless. :)
@shashagirl113 жыл бұрын
That's so cool! I really never imagined that the castle depictions we usually see are the "stripped down" versions; Not dark, but with whitewashed walls...wow. Thanks so much for sharing that fun fact 😄

I want you to know how much I appreciate your comment; thank you so much for your kindness and your willingness to share. I was actually very hesitant to make a public KZbin channel -- I did so at the request of a couple close friends -- and the only reason I've been willing to post my videos is my hope and intention that they might somehow be of service in some small way to others; I've hoped that I might be able to offer something useful or gratifying (though I know that what I offer is very limited). It means so much to me to know when my hope & intention have been fulfilled -- knowing that I have been able to help so meaningfully is far beyond anything I could have wished or anticipated, in fact. I hope it is OK for me to say that I am holding you and your struggles in my heart with love at this moment. May you have restful sleep and restorative relaxation, and may you be accompanied by strength and self-nurturing as you come through whatever difficulties face you now.

Thank you so much! Though I do admit that I take some liberties with regard to strict historical accuracy -- a real medieval castle's cooking fire would not look like this, for example, and the view from the window would probably have been different. But I hope the overall gestalt impression, with both visuals and sound, can perhaps offer a starting point for the kind of imaginative time-travel you've described.

@@ambienceofyesteryear6871 Well if you ever make a historical sound scape about Meiji era through to modern Japan or colonial Latin America let me know. flu dog - I do wish and intend to make a video with a Japanese setting, but I'm having a hard time finding images & information reflecting everyday/domestic historical spaces (the language barrier doesn't help, I'm sure). Is there anything in particular you could recommend? I am also very interested in any recommendations you may have for these kinds of historical spaces in Central/South America -- I had hoped to focus on indigenous cultures but will welcome any suggestions. There is no need to suggest anything, of course, but I appreciate any guidance you may be able to offer.

@@ambienceofyesteryear6871 What era of Japanese history, domestic, social, religious, or governmental/military. I came to Japan in 1996 from the US, I have two degrees one in history and the other in political science. I would suggest maybe the mid 19th century or the very early 20th century. Both periods are eras of great change in Japan.

pov: it's the year 1468 and you've been born to work in the kitchen. your mother worked in the kitchen, as did her mother before her, and as did her mother before. you wait for your lover to come. low and behold, he comes no more than a minute later. he's wearing a disguise, of course, because no one can know who he is. the king will have both of your heads if they find out. you grab a basket of food, making it seem to the other kitchen maids that you're just taking breakfast to one of the queen's ladies. they pay you no mind. you grab your lover's hand ever so sneakily as you walk out of the kitchen with the basket. feeling the fresh air hit your cheeks, you smile and look to your lover, as he's now pulled back his disguise. you two have a picnic for the day. just you, the open fields, and the engaged prince, soon to be king.
