This is fantastic! I would love to see a night version of this. A little less street noises, more nighttime sounds, and the occasional chime from Big Ben.
@ambienceofyesteryear68714 жыл бұрын
I actually debated about whether to make this a daytime or nighttime setting; I decided on the day because I liked the idea of exploring the sounds of a bustling London street. I will definitely revisit the idea of a nighttime version in the future, though -- and thanks for your suggestion of chimes from Big Ben!
@Saternalius4 жыл бұрын
Baker Street is quite a way from Westminster, so I don't think the sound of a chime from Big Ben would travel that far, but the St. Marylebone Parish Church would be quite near.

@@Saternalius You bring up a good point, so I did a little research. Apparently the sound of Big Ben can be heard at least 5 miles away (I've also read 9 miles). And a quick google search tells me that the distance between the Sherlock Holmes Museum (the current 221 B Baker St) is 2.9 miles away from Big Ben. The "original" 221 B Baker St (which didn't exist in the Victorian Era as the numbers didn't go up that high on Baker St, but was extended in 1932) is still on the same block as the museum, so I think it's conceivable that one can hear Big Ben from 221 B Baker St.

"It was a September evening, and not yet seven o’clock, but the day had been a dreary one, and a dense drizzly fog lay low upon the great city. Mud-colored clouds drooped sadly over the muddy streets. Down the Strand the lamps were but misty splotches of diffused light which threw a feeble circular glimmer upon the slimy pavement. The yellow glare from the shop-windows streamed out into the steamy, vaporous air, and threw a murky, shifting radiance across the crowded thoroughfare." I walk along Baker Street every morning, unfortunately it is rather uninspiring. Fortunately my commute also takes me through Regent's Park which never fails to lift my spirits.
