Hi Omri. This is the first time for me posting a comment on any of your KZbin presentations, although, as a recent newcomer to the whole expansive and immersive world of VCV Rack, I've been immensely enjoying (and benefiting from) them for many weeks now. I especially enjoy your "from scratch" tutorial style videos, because I'm finding that nothing me takes me deep into the realm of patching as well as these do - I can read books and UGs and the like, but they always leave me (being not especially technical-minded) in the dust. Your tutorials are much more relatable (and repeatable). Anyways, aside from simply thanking and complimenting you on your channel, I wanted to offer up an idea for a potential future video, since you occasionally have ended other ones canvassing your viewers for ideas. I've been really intrigued by the Elektron Oktaktrak MK II for some time now, as sampling (and sequencing of samples) is something I find really intriguing. But Oktaktrak looks a bit daunting. And regardless, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to spring the >$2K CAD for a big chunk of hardware to sit on my desktop, especially since I'm really aiming for a total software-driven workflow. So my idea is this: Would it be possible to string together a bunch of different VCV Rack modules to emulate the Oktatrack? I don't expect a complete replica is within the realm of the possible, but a virtual rig that could get me 50% of the way there would be appealing. What do you think? Is that a challenge worth exploring? Danke und viel Gruesse aus Kanada, Frank Paul.
@OmriCohen-Music6 ай бұрын
Thank you so much :) The Oktatrak is veeeery deep, and would be tough to build in VCV, but maybe the workflow can be reproduced. I will have to dig deeper...

I'm not sure, but I think the idea may have come from another YT channel. The challenge on that channel (taken from some modular synthesis forum or other) is that you start with a standard mixer and audio out - some stretch the rules a bit by using a reverb with the mixer but some argue "that's cheating". It goes against the literal terms of the challenge, but some people just can't help but include it! If you do use reverb, it can NOT be used for anything but the final, overall audio output - you can not use the reverb to patch in as a CV, modulator, or delayed trigger or gate to any of the three modules. At that point you use the VCV web sight "random" search feature to select two modules. You can re-roll if the random module is a visual (like an oscilloscope for instance) or blank module, but other than that exception you MUST use what ever the search gives you in some fashion. For the third module you can select any one module from the entire list and it can be as complex or simple a module as you wish. That's it! That's all you get to use. You can only use one iteration of each of the three modules but you can patch them any way you choose. Like poker, you can get dealt two really bad modules from the random search, and whether or not the patch is any good or not all depends on your third choice. It's not a speed challenge, and there is no limitation on the *type* of patch, ie; rhythm, melodic, drone, etc. Sometimes you have to really think about your third choice because it's "final"; you can't throw it out and go back to make another third selection.

@@OmriCohen-Music Thanks for the reply Omri! I'm not sure how to describe it, but as I increase the volume, I start to hear (if I'm describing it correctly) an oversaturated sound. Hi Thank you so much for these videos they are so so helpful. Is there a way to get my mouse so that when I hover over a button it will give me that little grey info bar?

So frustrating. I cannot find that Additive Vibrations module anywhere on the VCV library site. Help?
@TheRealTeebz3 жыл бұрын
after some digging I realize some modules are not compatible with VCV 2.0

Yeah, it will take a few more days until all of the modules will be available :)

I absolutely love your videos, sir! I just recently started learning VCV Rack. This is just the type of stuff I'd like to create. I have one question about the uMap module. When you add it, I don't quite understand how it's automatically connected to one of the channels of the mixer, or the bird sounds. Additionally, not that I have anything at all against sampling, I think those bird sounds are quite nice. You got an "oh yeah" from me. But I'm wondering if you have tips for creating bird sounds (or other nature sounds) within VCV Rack. Thank you so much for doing what you do! Happy new year as well!

I appreciate it, thank you! About the uMAP module, it's working more or less the same as Midi mapping. It's possible to map a parameter without connecting any cables, and by sending CV to uMAP, control this parameter with voltage. Does this make sense? About the birds, ratcheting and sine waves are your friends. Also, pitch modulation with some glide can be interesting. Cheers and happy new year!

@@OmriCohen-Music Thank you so much for your reply! I will explore all of these things you mentioned. This is all quite fascinating, especially coming from the world of rock and jazz. Warm greetings from Minnesota, USA ☮️🍄

Hey I can't find the burst generator in the library, does anyone know an alternative I can use?
@OmriCohen-Music2 жыл бұрын
Hi, you can use the burst generator from Count Modula, for example.

I'm just getting into this and this sounds great! I'm trying to replicate it on my VCV, but I can't find µMap and Re-Burst on the VCV Library. Any alternatives I could use? Thank you!

Hi! I hope Sroermelder will get updated soon but for now, have a look here - github.com/stoermelder/vcvrack-packone/releases/tag/Nightly About ReBurst, there's the Burst Generator from Count Modula you can use. Cheers!

@@electric_bimma it's been a minute since I played with it. Maybe you can loop the bust generator back to your note generator. I forgot the name of it. 😅
