I always used to listen to Silent Hill soundtracks (second one especially) when I felt anxious, and this video helped me to relax while studying in college. Thank you so much for reuploading! My dad used to play Silent Hill games since I was 2 (basically when Silent Hill 2 came out), and till I was 6 I still have small memories from when I was next to him and he was playing it. Then at 11 I played it myself for the first time, and let me tell you, this game became my escape from all the hard stuff I was going through in life till this day😭. Even now that my dad’s not around that much, I’m thankful he introduced me to some of the most amazing things that I enjoy even now at 21... Thanks dad, hope we’ll meet again someday and play Silent Hill 2 together like the old times.

And that's no empty BS platitude; I know only too well the living hell that is SGAD including the hard fact that those who've never experienced it can't truly understand, how deeply f-cked up it is making the experience extra-lonely and therefore more harrowing. So if this music helps in even the slightest way then that's fully Kool and the Gang. My preference is for the most chill possible tracks, those w/little to no chance of evoking negative mood, affect or emotion (i.e. anxiety) such as some stuff in this mix including "Heaven's Night" and any SH or Fallout music that's fully ambient in a non-fear-evoking way (like "Casual Background", "Riverside Hotel Ambiance" and so on) or possesses soothing melodic, tonal, sustain and other qualities (e.g. "End of Small Sanctuary). Btw, "End of Small Sanctuary" owes no small debt of inspiration to the guitar interlude sounds in David McCallum's "The Edge" (the opening sequence of which famously served as the basis for Dr. Dre's 2000 hit "The Next episode"). While "The Edge" isn't a pure ambient track, it's def low-fi progressive (for the time) jazz/thematic music that's at least semi-ambient and worth a listen if you're not already familiar. And when the guitar interlude plays you'll be hard-pressed to deny that Yamaoka was a fan. But, yeah: severe anxiety and related disorders like PTSD suck in the worst way imaginable. So seriously: good luck because it's not an easy road to be stuck on and can be so bad that in relative comparison the dangers one faces in games like SH would be preferable because at least then you have reason to experience anxiety whereas with any severe anxiety disorder one experiences fear in all its form often with no cause and as an added detriment all the sh-t one does need to worry about becomes frequently overwhelming. As Frank Herbert wrote in DUNE, "Fear is the mind-killer" and once one comes down with SGAD or a related diagnosis the meaning those words represent become quite salient. Like in a "It's funny because it's true" way but more like "It's soul-crushing because it's true".

If it's ok, I'll share mine. I played silent hill 2 a couple years after it came out, when I was in middle school. I remember being so scared late one night while playing that I had to dash to the kitchen, fearful that one of the fleshy straight jacket monsters would appear at any moment. More than the scares, though, was how the game played a part in shaping how I saw the world around me, how I myself thought. Its melancholy was like a mirror to my childhood depression and isolation. It was a safe way to explore the ideas of guilt, our inner demons, and how they manifest in our thoughts and actions. In conversations with high school friends, it taught me about skillful writing, symbolism, and crafting naratives that invite thought and self-reflection. The music is a familiar blanket to wrap up in when the depression, anxiety, and trauma of my life intrudes again. I came back to listen again because as I sat in bad, just diagnosed with a new illness and an uncertain future, the words of Mary's letter echoed in my mind. "In my restless dreams, I see that town. Silent Hill." As I dream of a carefree youth tainted by the rose tinted glasses of time, ever at my periphery are the crawling horrors of all that I have endured, all of my guilt, and the fear of falling back into the darkness.

Smoke from the Canadian wildfires has been drifting into my town the last couple days. This has never happened here before - but it will happen more and more. There’s this pallid, ghostly mask to everything outside, and it’s much denser and more perpetual than fog. I’m moving away permanently in a couple weeks, so I’ve been walking around familiar spots from my childhood listening to this soundtrack. The smoke and the lack of people (who are staying inside due to the smoke) have made it feel like some abandoned and alien place.

I use silent hill music and sounds as alarm, ringtone and message sound on my phone. I absolutely love the games and music. I could have silent hill music playing at my funeral, even i could not hear it myself. Life is short people, try to enjoy it at the fullest. Greetings to all.
