@SlimothyTV if you lived in an area prone to strong storms, and you were a big weather enthusiasts, would you recommend mounting your own dopler radar dish to your roof? I'm considering it. But can't find much info on private citizens owning dopler radar systems. Just questioning the practicality of it, how much I would get out of it. Then I'd need a buying guide, because I don't know enough about them, but I'd like to.
@Slimothy Жыл бұрын
Nope that would not be a good idea. Don’t quote me on this but I could have sworn I read that it’s not legal in the US to do that at least without a ton of licenses and approval from govt agencies if I’m not mistaken. Aka not gonna happen. And would cost 100k+ and your area of radar coverage would not be much, maybe a mile or two. Best to just use the free radar coverage available on other weather apps.
@Brian-bd5vb Жыл бұрын
@@Slimothy I don't think it's a legal issue if a pre-made one is bought. Building your own, yes. Larger boats have radar bought and installed by private citizens. As well as some storm chasing teams have vehicle mounted radars, and those are for the most part run by private citizens. I don't think it would be a legal issue as long as the product in question was installed and used properly. As for the price, mid range marine weather radar systems start at around $2,000 USD and go up from there. Now my follow up question would be, if a home on a hill with no nearby trees had a radar mounted on the high point of the roof, would it provide a benefit to have, versus using the publicly avaliable radar maps? (The marine weather radars I've been looking at have a range between 14 and 22 nautical miles.)
@Slimothy Жыл бұрын
@@Brian-bd5vb From what I read, the marine radars are only legal on boats in the water and not on land. I could be wrong, but I recently was looking into something similar and immediately stopped once I saw that the range would be bad, it appeared to be illegal from my research, and the cost for good equipment would be a lot. And the weather apps already have such great radar like RadarScope, super high def. I get what you're saying. If you want to do something fun, DIY, and you like building things, maybe look into making an ADSB Receiver to track airplanes. I built one with a raspberry pi and it was really fun, and it's fun to see all the airplanes that I can track from my home.

Hola, just a great video. I just have one WS-2000 Weather Station and the only "bad thing" that I see is that the console has no place for batteries, so it has need to be connected all the time, in the place where I live we usually get heavy storms and hurricanes so we often have power outages and that makes the weather stations stop reading live data.
@GR8Tmate Жыл бұрын
Why don’t you connect it via a ups or even a usb battery bank that you alternatively keep on charge. If your power goes out either the ups of battery bank Will keep it running.

@@TwiistedTr33 I think the 2000 is the sweet spot. I haven’t tried the 5000 though. Ambient is great if you want to add-on to your weather systems, they have a lot of options. If you want a single “set it and forget it” without moving parts, the Tempest WeatherFlow is also a good option. I have a video on this channel going over it. But if you’re wanting Ambient, I think the 2000 is the way to go unless you have the extra cash for the 5000 for no moving parts.

@Slimothy so the 2000 isn't much of a downgrade got it. Does it matter if the ws is high off the ground or just a few feet off on the tripod?

@@TwiistedTr33 Yeah, the 2000 is very similar to the 5000 except it has moving parts. For me, I don't care. Moving parts are just fine for me. As for tripod, I have mine on a deck that's about... eh 15 feet off the ground maybe? I don't think it matters too much. Ideally, you don't want to be near a building/tree for most accurate wind, but that's nearly impossible. I think they recommend 40+ ft in any direction... lol. Not happening. Hello, thanks for your review. I have a bunch of questions after viewing your video just to evaluate the purchase. 1) does the external unit have backup AA (or AAA) batteries to be mounted? 2) did you integrate this weather station with home assistant? Is it configurable to allow this kinda integration? 3) can the main console operate only through batteries or it needs the power adapter to be connected anytime? 4) what is the console build quality?
@Slimothy2 жыл бұрын
1) Yep, 2 AA batteries. 2) I did not, and I'm not sure if it is. My guess is that there's a way, I think I saw another KZbin video that mentioned it. 3) It has no batteries, needs to be connected to power. I bought a UPS battery backup for my home network as well as another for this station so it'll keep running even if the power goes out, as long as my internet stays up, which it usually does even with a power outage with the UPS battery backup. 4) Console build quality -- it's lightweight. But it feels solid, I don't have any complaints. The screen looks great. Far better than any other weather station I've seen.
